What happened to solid state fans?

Great idea in theory. The problem is that it charges the air when it moves through. Bad idea around electronics and the charge also attracts dust. The reason those ionic air purifiers work well is that the dust is attracted to them like magnets.

Then it'd be cool if they made them easily removable, like in a pcmcia card slot. Just remove, rinse off, dry and put back in.
