I wanted to install the Splinter Cell game that came bundled with my Leadtek 6600GT, and all pretty and nice ... until the setup finished.
Then, it did a system check, and it seems all is ok except one thing at the video card:
"Non power-of-two render target support" ... this is required.
and at me it says "NO Non power-of-two render target support detected", and is followed by a nice X in a red circle.
What does it mean? :S

Do you have the latest drivers installed for the graphics card? The 66.93 ones from the nVidia site were the newest official ones last time I looked.
 
What version of directX do you have installed? Did you look for a patch to the game?
 
I have DirectX 9.0c.
And as for a patch for the game, nope, I didn't look. I'll download the latest patch now, to see what will happen. But though, I posted this because the video card moves under its "power" in more games, not only in SC.
I posted a while ago a thread in nVidia Flavor explainig more about this card, and if there's some problems with it running under Windows Server 2003.
I'd appreciate if you'd recommand me a driver that works better with Win2k3. I currently have the 66.96 for 64bits os. Tried with Omega, but those are not updated, and it doesn't recognize the 6600GT yet.
 
Why are you running Win2k3? Do you have some compelling reason to be running a server OS on your desktop? That is probably your problem right there.
 
Well, first of all, I have two other computers in the house, and this acts like a server for them. 2nd, stability ... you can't ignore that this is the most stable os from Microsoft.
And if you tweak it a little (like making it support old 16bits applications or removing that "error" that doesn't let games/programs to be installed Win2k3 etc.) it's unmatched by WinXP.
But don't know, there has to be a driver that works good with this os o_O :(
 
What exactly are you serving? My XP box is perfectly stable, has never crashed on me so I'm not sure what you are referring to.

I'm not trying to give you a hard time, but it seems like you are running into a ton of difficulty with your video card and games simply because of Win2k3. Is it really worth all the extra effort?
 
'eh well, no matter what I won't change the os. Let's say I had some unpleasant experiences with WinXP, and I'm also fond of Windows 2003. Does it worth the effort? If you optimize it, yes indeed it worth the effort :p
Like I said, there has to be a driver made for Win2k3 :(
 
Well, those are the drivers that I currently use atm.

"Win2k3 Server is a SERVER OS. Its not built for games."
Actually, yes it's a Server os, but it can be used for games as well. Every os from MS basically have the same core. And one more thing ... I didn't have any problems with a video card from ATI (a Radeon 9000 PRO, which was oc and working at 300/600) :S

Having a machine that runs Win 2K3 myself, I can say that it is great....better memory management, better stability..... and it is faster than XP due to all of the EYE Candy being disabled by default.

Edit: Yes All of my games work just fine.

The only problem is that I mainly have to use drivers for xp, because drivers made for it are kinda rare. The hard part, is that video drivers are the main ones that "avoid" being made for Win2k3, though ... this happens only at nVidia. Like I said, I had NO problems with an ATI card :S

I also get the same message and I have a BFG 6600gt OC. I'm running Windows XP and have tried the latest drivers as well as the latest beta drivers and it still says the same thing. I have no idea what it means, but the game runs perfect, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.
 
wow, i didn't know that Win2k3 can work like that. I thought it can only work as a server. I learn something today. Thank
 
Though, I'd sure be happy to find out what the error really means :p
And as for Windows Server 2003, yes indeed is a force that cannot be matched, even in games :D (I use the Enterprise Edition)
 
Googling this problem shows that this error is found on all sorts of machines. I wouldn't worry about it as long as the game runs fine.
