what does Exx2x mean?

I know what exx5x means 1333FSB opposed to 1066 for the exx0x equiv,.,, but what does the 20 mean?? ie e6420?
 
The E6320 and E6420 replaced the E6300 and the E6400. The only difference was that the full 4MB cache of the conroe was available on the replacements, whereas the older models only had 2MB cache. The E6300 and E6400 were part of the original Conroe release, along with the E6600 and E6700. The newer 2MB cache dual core chips took on the E4000 series nomenclature (E4300/E4400/E4500).

Not really from what I've seen so far. In fact some of the newer C2D CPUs overclock better than their predecessors.

E6700/E6600: typical max OC of around 3.6Ghz, with good air cooling
E6850/E6750: typical max OC of around 4.0Ghz, with good air cooling

The difference? A new, cooler running stepping. Intel has been at it for over a year now, so of course, the manufacturing process gets better with time. This is most evident with the Q6600.

Q6600 B3: typical max OC of around 3.3Ghz, with good air cooling
Q6600 G0: typical max OC of around 3.6Ghz, with good air cooling
