Hi there

I'm running a Q9450 and have loaded it up using Prime96 (64 bit version). I have also used both coretemp (v0.97.1) and realtemp (v2.41) to monitor the temperatures of my CPU.

Both programmes are reporting the temps of my cores differently ?!?! 10 degrees in fact !

Which do I trust ? These apps seem to be the popular choice.

CoreTemp: 61 ; 52 ; 57; 57
RealTemp: 51 ; 43 ; 47 ; 47

I have not overclocked yet, just looking to understand my baseline
Also, how do these temps look to you for a system under load (my spec below ) - been running Prime95 for a few hours now. I do have what appears to be a very hot running 9800GX2 that is stock cooled and not in my water loop! ambient temperatures inside the case are probably rocketing !

any advice appeciated

Its the difference in what the programs consider is the max core temperature. I believe Coretemp assumes 105 and Realtemp assumes 95, thus the 10c difference you see.

As Intel never publish what it actually is, it's your call as to what to go by. Most people tend to go with the lower temp so they can sleep better at nights (ha ha).

Dont you think in trying to be helpful I was thinking perhaps you were searching for something that isnt there (yet) therefore the next best thing was offered ?
be a bit tolerant ! or is it time of the month for you.
