i had a gigabyte p35-ds3r mobo,e6850 cpu,2 gig corsair cmx2x1024-6400c4pro mem.,
raptorx hdd. This was all running on the mobo cardboard box for 3 weeks with no problems.I finally dedcided to install in a case , got an ultra aluminus case and installed
all the above parts. Fired up and it is dead, the fans run,the hdd runs but no activity, the
memory activity leds light on one stick momentarily and go out. I checked the mobo
tray and made sure no stand offs were anywhere but at hte screw holes. I removed
the mobo and put it back on the box set it up started it with the same result as in the case. What did i do wrong? Any help would be appriciated as i will get another mobo and
try again after i figure what happened. This is not my first install, but it is my first install
with a serious mistake.

maybe something got shorted out.

that happened to me when i built the second rig in my sig. everything worked fine outside a case, but inside the fans spun up and died right away when i put everything in a case.

the problem was that my board didnt like making contact with the back of the case, so i put it in with that foam piece that come with the boards and made sure to use plastic washers to make sure that no metal touched the board. i did all that and a little prayer and voila, be baby fired right up.

rebuild the pc again take everything (even the battery) out of the board and then put it back together. Its worked for me on my PCs and other computers I've fixed.

I concur with thee poster above, strip it down to bare bones and rebuild outside the case, has happened to me a few times

ADRENALIN_2099 is exactly right. What you have going on there is a short. You may have an extra standoff in a location where there is no hole for the motherboard, or some other area where case is grounding the board out.
