What defrag software do you use? Freeware options?

Hey guys I'm getting closer to the end of my latest build and one of the things I'm looking at is replacing much of my software with freeware. I know AVG is a good free antivirus but I was wondering what kind of options there are in defrag. I know XP has a built in defrag but is it really all that good? Would I be ok to just use it rather than something else?
 
O+O works great for me, but it costs money (as does Diskeeper). If you've got nothing else and are going on the cheap, the built-in defragmenter is good enough.

You might want to try searching the web for reviews.
 
Just an fyi, the windows defrag is basically diskeeper lite. Nothing wrong with it :)

Yeah, but haven't they basically been using the same "version" of it since win2k came out? (read: OLD)

Except that it doesn't do boot-time defrag, or coalesce free space. There's a comparison chart at the Executive Software site that can let you see what's missing; maybe you can still stick with the built-in version after reading that, and that's good news.

Indeed, or multiple disks at once. But it is free and works fairly well. Not trashing other defrags, just pointing out what comes with windows is pretty good.
 
Been using PerfectDisk 7 for a little while. Haven't had any issues. Haven't used any scheduling features as of yet. I switched from Diskeeper to PerfectDisk after trying to defragment a partition that didn't have much space left. Diskeeper wouldn't do a thing since there wasn't enough freespace. PerfectDisk didn't care. Diskeeper has more bells and whistles I think and has been around for quite some time. Can't go wrong with either.
 
diskkeeper doesn't show support for windows 2003 that I can tell, did I just miss something on their website?

So it does support it because I have used it on Server 2003 Enterprise Edition.
 
I was wondering if anyone else has had this issues before, running Diskeeper 10 Enterprise Edition and Server 2003 Enterprise Edition, now and then after the system has been up for a while, Diskeeper suddenly can not analyze or even defrag certain hard drives unless a reboot is done. :confused: :mad:
