What core to get?

I'm shopping for a new Athlon 64. I currently have a 939 3200+. I'm thinking of getting a 939 4200x2 or 4600x2. What core is different? I see Manchester and Toledo cores. whats the difference between the 2?

One more thing. Is a Opteron 175 faster or slower than the 2 cpus mentioned above? I know they overclock well but I'm wondering about stock speeds what is better?

Thanks

Ohh fudge! now I found a Windsor core. I need to know about that one also.

Thanks

Im looking at very similar CPU's

the 4200 and 4600 both have 512k cache (x2)
the 4400 and 4800 both have 1024k cache (x2)

Clocking is 2.2Ghz and 2.4Ghz respectivly

This may help you a lot (from tomshardware)

My problem isn't what CPU to get (i'm going for the 4400+ for more cache but less clock, which can then overclock past 4800 speeds anyhow) it's a case of where the hell can I find one in the UK at this time of year.

Manchester = 2 x 512k L2 Cache (3800+ 4200+ 4600+)
Toledo = 2 x 1MB L2 Cache. (4000+ 4400+ 4800+)

Opty 175's are the same speed as the X2 4200+ but has twice the cache making it equivalent to a X2 4400+.

There are Toledo based 3800+ 4200+ and 4600+ chips, but half the cache has been disabled effectively making it a Manchester core. But suppoedly Toledo cores overclock better than Manchester.

Well I think I'll get the Athlon 64 4400+ Toledo. The only problem is New Egg only has an OEM in stock. Those only have a 30 day warranty right?

No, you get one year from AMD on OEM procs. The 30 days you're referring to is through NewEgg. If there's a problem in the first 30 days, you can return it to NewEgg for a replacement. Beyond 30 days, you have to go through AMD for an RMA. Retail AMD's have a three year manufacturer warranty and include a stock HSF.

Edit: Damn signature is giving me fits today! :mad:

Oh that should be fine. I've overclocked P4s and Athlon 64's and I've never fried one so I figure is theres going to be a problem it will probably show up right away.

4400 is a nice chip. You'll be happy with it.
