What can you guys possibly have that fills up 250GB of storage?

I just got a new HD since my old one is on its way out after dual booting vista/xp on it. This drive i have now is 160 gigs and in 3yrs since i have had it it I still have like 100 gigs free. I have like 50 gigs worth of music and xp/programs installed. I cannot imagine having another 50 gigs or even another 100 gigs. Whats being filled up on these massive drives.

anyway i upgraded to a 250g in the process :eek: :)
 
On my HDs I have seasons 1- 7 of Star Trek DS9, 1-7 of Star Trek Voyager, 2 seasons of A Cook's Tour, and Fawlty Towers, more pr0n than I could ever manage to watch, multiple gigs of MP3s, game demos, programs, and lots of other crap.

One can never have enough HD space, especially when it comes to digital packrats like me.

I have around 600GB of .Flac files, 100GB of Raw files, 50GB of pron, then there is all the apps, games etc. It soon piles up.
 
I have over 1.6TB of movies for my HTPC, and yes, the Wife and I have watched all of them! Convenience FTW!

I still have to rip all my series DVD's... (Simpsons, Family Guy, Robotech, etc).

I'm not as bad as some but I have about 150 GB out of my 200 filled (I have a little 30 GB IDE that I use for important backups and such). It's mostly games, music, movies, and of course pr0n. If I had more HDD space (I haven't gotten around to getting a new SATA drive....) I'm sure I would use it. I'm a digital packrat but I try to keep it under wraps....200 GB gets filled fast! :eek:

well i have images of every software\movie i buy
i have multiple customised installers
i have a document drive that backs up to another drive in this system
another system and important stuff to another country

the ability to look at documents i have written over the last 15ish years
the ability to go through versions of those documents hrrm i dont like this edit i did to this document 3 years ago *checks older version*

the fact i never ever need to get a cd dvd out of my cupboard
i can listen to all of my mp3s and flac audio anywhere in the house without needing to have the cd

the ability to watch a dvd that i lent to a friend

i dont have to think about space :) i just have it
i can grab drivers for pretty much anything i have ever owned and lots of stuff i havent
hell i have detonator 12 something on my hdds for windows 98 :)
 
I have about 600 gigs for backup; this machine has images over the network from almost all the other machines in the house.

My database server has two terabytes. Right now, it has all of Wikipedia on it (all the text, all the history of all the text; no media). It's about 65% full.

Another machine has all my CDs and LPs stored on there. (Almost.) That's about 500 gigs. Plus (almost) every digital picture I've ever taken, plus the Photoshopped versions of the files and so on. That's only 25 gigs, I think.
 
on my last rig i ran an 80 as my primary and i had 400gigs a space raid zero as a secondary hard drive that i served shows on in our house or to whoever came over with there lappy or rig. so i had shows, movies, games, apps, installers, disc images, music, ect... so i can see filling up a lot of space.

It's not a word one hear's so often these days, with the many euphamisms they have now, "file sharing", "peer to peer" and so forth. Almost entirely movies and music now (YUCK!). In the good old days it was just pc games and programs.

Begins with W ends with Z :p

I will have a LOT more music soon. I just upgraded from using laptops with 100gb HD's to my current desktop with ~1TB, so I'm guessing I'll have about 100gb of music.

CVS Repositories.
Accumulated Data from over two years of gathering - 1.98TB of it on switched FC.
MP3s (over a terabyte)
Video (close to half a terabyte)
Besides, everybody knows there's only 450GB of porn total on the whole internet, and everyone just copies everyone else's libraries. ;)

Try having 5 years of pictures, 3 years of those taken with DLSR using RAW = 30mb .
pictures with over 15k taken.


i have about 100G of music, i have it all set up in winamp, playlists and i do go through it all.

is not about what normal people would throw out, because there is no such thing as normal on the internet, diff peopel collect diff crap.

for those have pron, is all the same crap, over and over, diff coloured people :)

Sure, i would say most people have %90 of their 200+ G of HD"s filled with illegal content.
 
So what do you guys with close to 1TB of stuff do to back it all up?
 
I have close to a tb in my main system and most of it is full. I have a bunch of dvd rips on it(which I do watch), some anime, mp3s and such(most of the anime is dvdrips or fan subs). I also end up using over a 100 gigs easy with backup images of client machines. Pretty much anytime I pull a machine from a clients office to do a reload I image the machine first and store the image a few weeks to make sure I didn't miss anything important. Do this before I try to clean up some that are fucked with virus/malware as well. Some of these machines end up having 50 gigs of shit on them. I can fill a 250 holding shit for a month without issue. Hell as I type this I'm trying to recover data off a failing hd for a client. Fucker has like 30 gigs of shit that should be on the companys sbs2k3 server. Me and the guys boss are going to have a little talk tommorrow.
 
I have a 200 gb hard drive for music alone. I need to upgrade that one. Bad. I'm ripping all my CDs into FLAC, which usually gives compression around 70%. That means around 400 MB/album. And then when you figure out I have on the order of 500 albums, 200GB is a little stretched.

And I haven't even embarked on transferring my dad's vinyl to digital... That's gonna be a many-year project. Not to mention a many-gig one :p I plan to do it Right, in 96/24. I have the interface, now I need a high-quality turntable and a lot of time. And some new hard drives :D

 
I have mainly music, HQ digital media takes up tons of space, at 4-7 gigs for a movie.... 200 gigs is gone monthly.


... then there is the porn :rolleyes:
 
i fill up my 200GB drive on a regular basis. when I get to about 15-20% free space, I burn some dvds off and put them in a huge cd book... (holds about 250 cd/dvds).... actually I have several books now... my next computer will have atleast a TB or two so I can keep more crap.
 
My 1.5 TB fileserver is setup for file replication with Bangbus servers..

Anyone else need free offsite backups of they're pr0n? :eek:
 
Lets see...

Tv shows can take up alot Star Trek TNG-30gb X-files-20gb
Anime can take up alot, My friend was telling me Bleach is about 16gb
HD pron :-P
Having games and all of their .iso too.
All of my Music Videos are 70-80mb
1.4gb for each movie adds up quick.
16gb of Mozart

And that's just 1x folder out of every genre.

I'm going to build a server next year for movies, 2tb club here I come :)

space is easy to fill.....but it all depends on YOU. I have downloads older than high school kids, ok, not really, but stuff that is 10 years old....I have every MP3's I ever got, unless the quality was horrible, my TiVo offloads shows to my desktop, DVD backups, regular backups, etc. And for those who have gigs of porn, what are you doing, we are on the internet, just go look at it.

Oh and BTW, I'm a anime fan, you can have a lot, and still get laid. Actually, you can be a big dork and still get that great ass, just have to prioritize
