What are these cables?

well i thought they where 8087 miniSAS to sata, but if they are 8087 why are they too small for my L8i?

The LSI card is indeed SFF-8087 and those cables you ordered SHOULD have worked. Can you elaborate what you mean by too small?
 
there are two different types of SAS breakout cables; "forward" and "reverse".

"forward" connects a mini SAS port on a motherboard or your LSI card to 4 SATA hard drives.

"reverse" connects a mini SAS port on the back of a hot-swap drive backplane to 4 SATA connectors on your motherboard or LSI card.

that looks to be a "forward" cable but they dont specify.

maybe that cable is an 8086 (26 pin) instead of an 8087 (36 pin)?

I've seen some people refer the ends as TARGET or HOST so make sure you understand that terminology.

TARGET = Drive
HOST = Controller / Raid Card

Comes from the old SCSI days.
 
ah thanks it is a 8086. Be nice if dealextreme said that on the page :/. Those 8086 look pretty uncommon for it to be assumed.
 
what do you expect when you're ordering from a website in hong kong.
