Hi all, first time poster. This is a great site, I have been reading for days before this post!

I am in the market for a new monitor - actually a dual monitor setup. Usage would be software dev/ office/ professional graphics, minimal games.

From what I have read including about 5 reviews, I like the price point and quality of the NEC LCD2690WUXi-SV. It seems to be a very well liked monitor with few if any problems.

It's hard to find comparables, is this one of the best in its category? What other monitors would you recommend instead of the 2690 in this pricing? I probably can't justify going any higher than around the $1300 street price for the 1390.

Graphics card will be a PCIe NVidia Quadro FX5600 1.5GB.

Is this forum appropriate for a newbie to ask for this kind of help? I am just looking for some guidance as to what other monitors people feel are in the NEC class, or is the 2960 the recommended one per my OP?
 
Hey there,

The NEC you mention is in a class by itself. The SV model vs. the BK model has a color calibrator that actually updates the internal colour lookup tables. Most other monitors don't have this, so when you calibrate them, you are in a sense calibrating the tables on your PC or MAC and using them as a "workaround" whereas with this monitor, the change affects everything, with or without a custom profile.

I think this monitor would really fill your needs, especially related to colour accuracy and visual quality.

If I had that much $$ for a monitor I would not hesitate getting this and keeping it for years to come.

Additionally NEC's service is second to none, and you get a 4 year warranty which is on the high end of the scale, if not class leading.
