How do you get your machine to start cranking down these 600 point units everyone talks about? The largest I've seen is a 364 point gromac core. This is after I enabled the over 5mb option. A large majority of the machines I've enabled for this have > 1GB of ram in them, but they still download 241 point tinkers all the time. Do I need to restart the folding process after changing the options with the -configonly switch? I restarted it on some machines and not others.

I finally decided to download em3 this weekend and now I'm realizing I'm getting small point blocks compared to some others. Oh well, I'm up to 10 machines and ranked 69th on the team now. :D

SIXTY NINE! woo woo.

sorry, im a geek, and due to nature im a little light on the play this week.

i have no help for your thread though sorry :(

The 364 is a large WU. The 600 pointers seem to be rare for the past 24 to 48 hours.

I would say a restart after -configonly would be a good idea to make sure the changes are made. I'm not sure if the config file is referenced after every work unit or only at startup.

I have a box just about to submit a unit and download another in about 10 minutes. This was one I didn't restart after the -configonly switch. I'll see what size unit it grabs. I'll get around to restarting all these processes at the same time. I still need to update a few machines from version 3 and version 4 clients. I'll just check them all today as time allows.

The one that just submitted a until grabbed a 57 point unit. It seems to be quite random. I'm just not going to worry about it.

I almost never get anything below the 300+ point Gromacs. I am running 5.02 Text Console only. I allow big work units (above 5 MB) and I have no-preference on WU with deadlines.

i have been running my console with the -advmethods switch. All I have been getting are the 600 pointers and 364 p1475 proteins. Maybe that will help. Still a bit random though. Before I enabled this, the largest I had was a 320 point gromacs.

I would like to make run of your rank number but I might get banned, if you know what i mean.:D

I've mainly gotten the 600 pointers the past few weeks although I have gotten a couple of the 364 pointers. I have found that on my mobile 2400+@2.5 Ghz, the 364 pointers actually give me higher points per day per Ghz. I wouldn't mind running those all the time.

I believe the -advmethods switch is the key here....along with allowing big units...of course! :D

I just have big units enabled on the P4 2.8ghz w/ 1 gig and I get a 600 pointer.....then 2-3 tiny(like 30-50) wu's and then another 600 pointer. Go figure.

Do you have your WU prefrence set to....no prefrence or deadline? The deadline answer will end those little WU you are talking about. Not that they don't help though! ;)

To be honest I am not sure. Probably no preference though. I can check tomorrow, but it does crank through those little ones pretty darn fast.

All you getting those 600 pointers need to share.. I've got about 10 machines set to accept big units but I get maybe one 600 pointer a week, -advmethods are used on all of them. Most of the time I get those crappy 53 pointers which only take like 10 hours on most of those machines. Although my main box right now is gonna turn a 600 pointer in in about 30 minutes. But I'm sure I'll just go back to those lovely 53, 52, and 77 pointers.

go figure. Me and 3, count em 3 of my borgs are working on 600 pointers. Ohh yeahh, big magnusvir is getting some serious protein loving. :D :D

Just setup 5 boxen, pulled 5 WU's within 10 minutes of each other.

4x 364 pointers
1x 316 pointer

Big blocks on, no -adv flag. Personally the 300 WU's point per day is far better for me than the 600 pointers. Looks like the 600 pointers is down, 1/2 the farm has the 300 pointers now with the other 1/2 on 600 still. Before (2-3 days ago) it was like 1 in 10 were 300 pointers the rest 600 pointers.

I don't use the -advmethods flag on any of my machines and the 1 Ghz Morgan core Duron and the Mobile 2400+ have gotten nothing but big unit proteins. Then again, the Duron just started folding last week and is only on it's second WU. The Mobile has gotten nothing but big units since I started them a couple of weeks ago.

I think if you are using -advmethods and are not getting 364 or 600 point units just about every time then you should stop using -advmethods. IIRC, -advmethods directs you to units that are just coming out of beta and that won't always be the big ones.

I think those 600 pointers may be getting near the end of a cycle. I would guess they will start getting plentiful again soon. Then again maybe the point value on those has changed, you were getting 100% bounus points on those!
Then again I am just guessing! The 2 boxen that are set to get those still are running a couple at the moment. Let you guys know what happens when they finnish.

Yes mine is set to no preference.
