Hi!
I'm looking for new monitor for my image editing hobbies. I currently have LG 32" 32LD450 as my main monitor which PROBABLY isnt the best one for it :D I work on comics so I tend to see lot of white, and I heard that AG-coating can make white look sparkly? Care to elaborate on that? Even if I get Dell U2711 It's probably going to be better than my TV right? I have to sell my LG away to get the money's so it would also be great if movies looked great on it, I don't care about gaming. Does movies look better on 1440p IPS than on 1080p random panel TV?
Thanks for your time.

Gah, according to that gif every monitor with anti-glare looks pretty shitty. I was thinking of Dell U2711 but looks like I can rule that out, Hazro's are a gamble because of their shitty pixel warranty, I want my monitor to be perfect with 0 faulty pixels.
What options do I have left?
Apple Cinema 27" but that's really expensive compared to Dell and the specs are "worse" but it's glossy.. Damn it.

I have the 27" ACD that I use for photo editing (LR/CS5), and I can't say enough on how good this monitor is. A bit pricey, but I personally think it's worth it.

Yes, the glare is there, but doesn't really bother me or affects the quality/clarity of the photo's that I'm editing. The only bad thing about it is that it only a mini-displayport and hardwired too as it is. Not a lot of decent card have the mini-DP, but rather the full one. I did finally found a card that has a mini-DP, and it works great with ACD. I also was able to find a full DP (male) to mini-DP (female) at Amazon.com. I ordered it just in case the card I bought would really sux, then I can get a better video card with a full DP, and just use the adapter.

I really don't want to get an Apple just because it's Apple product it costs 300 euros more than the others, and it doesn't even have 10-bit panel like DELL does. But sparkly white is definite no.. How come they make these monitors for "professional" use if the whites are fucked up? I really can't understand the stupidity in this.. Can't DELL just announce U2712 with glossy coating, I want my monitor soon but from the looks of it I'm kind of out of options at the moment..

Well... technically even the DELL U2711 has an 8-bit panel, but it uses FRC to provide an additional 2 bits. But if you have ruled out DELL and Apple for the time being, I might suggest holding out for a 3840x2160 display. There's been some speculation on these forums that such a product is not terribly far off...

3840x2160 might not be the best for movie watching? And sounds like an amazing leap to me, from 1440 to 2160? I really have to doubt that, or if there is going to be some monitors with that res soon theyre going to cost a fortune and my budget is sadly limited.

At the moment looks like http://www.hazro.co.uk/HZ27WD.php is my only choice? Has there been anytalk about U2712 or something, maybe Dell realizes their mistakes or something, or just wishful thinking eh

Yeah, the HZ27WA/C/D are the only monitors in existence (outside of the Apple LED Cinema Display 27") that use non-AG LG panels. Just keep in mind they only ship from Europe. And there's been no talk of any U2712. :(

I live in Europe so its not a problem, but I dont think I have balls enough to take the risk, I heard their QC is pretty bad and their pixel warranty isnt the best so if I end up with several dead pixels I cant return it need 5 for warranty, and I want my monitor with 0 faulty pixels.. Out of options?

Does anyone know about this monitor http://www.flatpanelshd.com/review.php?subaction=showfull&id=1300192417 I dont know if that looks good or not.

Haven't seen or heard of it but reading the review this:

"Some users complain about the IPS panels’ grainy surface on white colors. Fujitsu P27T-6 has the same “grainy” panel surface on bright colors as most IPS panels today. It’s not better than Dell’s IPS based monitors."

makes me think it has the same aggressive AG as nearly every other 27" IPS panel, so if you hate aggressive AG you'll likely hate this panel too. Otherwise it seems on par with the Dell U2711 or new HP 27" monitors. Probably the exact same panel with minor mods which is the norm between manufacturers.

edit: found the old [H] thread, looks like its AG is aggressive. Not much else info. on it and I can't find any vendors selling it on google in the US...seems to sell in EU for ~730EUD, not sure if that includes VAT or not. Probably not.

I think I'm gonna order Dell U2711.. The shop lets you return the monitor without no reason if you don't like it for first 14 days, so if the AG is unbearable for me I'll return it. If I can live with it I'll live with it as long as I can then try the AG-removing after warranty is out or something..

EEEEEEH!
What the FFFuck?
I just noticed that our BenQ XL2410T uses anti-glare and it's REALLY NOTICEABLE! How can some people live with this? I didn't notice because I only used it as IRC monitor till now, but now that I sold my TV and ordered the Dell I had to use it as main... oh fuck come on please someone tell me the Dell has weaker Anti-glare than this? It's like white's are gray or something..
So only IPS without this are Hazro and Apple? I think I have to take the risk going with hazro when they lower the prices again... This really sucks, why do monitor makers use this kind of shit? It cant be used to edit images :S and people that "live with it" really have to deal with it every moment they see "white" on the screen (used "" because it doesnt look white)

I would consider the Samsung 27A850D.

The AG coating is very mild and not noticeable.

As long as you get one with acceptable backlight uniformity, I think this one is a winner. I have the 24" version and am pleased so far. I'll be calibrating it later today and will share the results, but albovin has already done an excellent review.

I am by no means an expert, but for my own personal uses the Samsung p2770 is awesome. Might be worth looking into, see if it is an option for you or not.

Just got my ACD today. God its nice. Before this I had the Dell U2711, an ASUS VE278Q, and a Samsung S27A950, the ACD is by far and away the best. The U2711 was the biggest disappointment, it was the best looking monitor in the world, covered up by wax paper.

This ACD is basically the U2711 with the wax paper taken off and built like a tank. I cant say enough how glad I am that I finally took my medicine and bought a new video card so I could get this monitor. Its just so amazing. Can not recommend it enough, its $899 and B&H right now, worth every penny.

The coating on the Dell is worse.

You can also get refurbished for 850 from the online apple store, where I got mine. You get the same warranty but with a less pretty box.

Very true, iv saved money buying apple refurb in the past. But with apple you have to pay tax, B&H is tax free everywhere but new york, and they have free shipping like apple. So B&H is $899 shipped, the refurb is $908.43 after tax. Id rather save the $8 and have a new one myself. :p

But I don't think either of those applies to the OP, it sounds like he lives across the pond.

Yeah, going for the Samsung. NM156, did you review yours somewhere?
Any places where should I get it, Finland stores seems to be out of stock everywhere.
OR Should I wait for the 970D, when it comes is it possible that 850D prices drop?
