with my e6300 and ram at 4-4-4-12 I'm able to hit 2.8 easy and the system runs great..

on a 3dmark benching, and in game fps both show the below results

2.8 - 6349

but once I crank the cpu up too 2.9 or above..

2.9 - 5339

verified this with 05 and 01, and bf2/bf2142 all of them drop off uniformly once I go past 2.8

any ideas??

:(

I can only guess as your sig provides no detailed information. Dont think its the cpu or it would have locked or BSOD. I think you are having memory errors that are recoverable or somehow overclocking the PCI buss and affecting your video card, I am suspecting the memory.

7mulit x 400 FSB = 2.8 GHz = rated speed of your memory at fairly tight timings.

above that you are overclocking your memory and it apparently is producing errors.

Run Memtest86+ at your 2.9 settings and see what happens. At worst we will eliminate the memory as the problem.

was probably a FSB strap, the chipset runs looser timings past a certain fsb and could result in lower performance at a higher clockspeed.
