just bought $2700 worth of computer parts for a new system build...put it all together and it wont turn on. nothing... no fan spinning on power supply, no case fans spinning, no lights on front of case....now heres the weird thing... when i leave everything on the power supply hooked up to the new computer, and just take the power supply connector for the motherboard and connect it to my OLD pc (which is sittin right next to the new one) the fans start spinnin (case, power supply, processor) and the lights in the front of the case come on on the NEW pc.... what do u think the problem is here? dead motherboard? how can i determine if the problem is the actual motherboard or say the processor or something? im thinking that the board is dead, thats why nothin comes on when the mobo power plug is in the new motherboard.....nothing happens at all, but when i plug it into my old pc it thinks the pc is working and lets all the lights and fans go on....... im trying to figure out what i need to RMA here...i had so many problems with this build...i bought a nice after market cooler to put on the chip and couldnt get it to actually attach for the life of me... sending that back too. HELP PLEASE!!! thanks....

im using an Antec 850W that i already have...

its def not the power button connector for the motherboard b/c like i said when i plug in the mobo connector on the power supply to my old pc all the lights on the case come on, fans start, etc...

Can you reformulate the whole thing. Its hard to understand.

So the computer don't want to start ?

If the PSU doesnt start, I can guess you did not connect the whole thing good. I would say it could be the mobo, the case button/cables or just you.

Could it possibly have been a result of installing the hs since you had trouble mounting it. Couldve messed the board up.

the main thing that im trying to figure out is that nothing happens when i turn it on when everything is hooked up....... but when i take the power connector for the mobo on the NEW pc and plug it into the mobo on the OLD pc, i get fans spinning, lights on the case, etc...i was thinking maybe this means that theres a prob with the NEW mobo, and when i plug the power into a working mobo it thinks everything is working right and lets the fans and lights start....but i just need to figure out if its a problem with the mobo or maybe the processor or something, but i have no idea how to determine that.

Even with a bad motherboard/cpu/memory, your system chasis should still turn on. I don't really understand what your saying, your not making much sense.

What I can say is, make absolutely sure that you are plugging the chasis wires into the motherboard correctly. Make sure every one +/- is correct. Your chasis/fans should at least power on. When you get to that point, then you can start troubleshooting.

Remember the top an bottom row are usually reversed

+ - + - 0
- + - +

That's just an example, but you get what I mean.

what dont u guys understand from what im saying? when everything is hooked up correctly, and i hit the switch on the power supply, NOTHING happens. i put my ear near the PS and i hear a lil buzz (thats not their when the switch is off), so i know electricity is flowing. now, if i leave EVERYTHING hooked up, and take the motherboard connector on the power supply and disconnect it from the computer, and put it in my old computer (which is right next to the new one), the fans start (case and processor, i dont think graphics card one does though), the lights come on for the case, etc. this all happens without anything plugged into the motherboard connector on the NEW pc. my old pc starts as well (b/c the motherboard has power) but oboviously its not gonna run b/c none of the other power plugs are in. the wires for the lights / power switch / reset button are oboviously connected correctly, b/c the lights are coming on when i do this!

Main reason why some people can't understand you is due to your choice of grammar and punctuation. Doesn't have to be perfect but it does help us understand you better.

Anyway, it could be something that is inside your new case (loose screw, wire, etc) is shorting out the new motherboard. So reassemble the new PC outside of the case, with the motherboard on the mobo box. Remove all connections to the case from the new PC. Use a screwdriver to jump the two power pins on the new motherboard to start up the new PC. See what happens.

And make sure that ALL of the neccessary wires and power connectors are connected.

I have no idea why others couldn't understand you. There were as many grammar mistakes in their posts as in yours.

That said, it is almost certainly a bad mobo. While it certainly depends on the chipset used for each mobo, your case fans should at least be getting power. Somehow, the signal from the mobo to start up isn't working, even if you hear a buzz. If you've already tried what the above posters have suggested to no avail, RMA that sucker. This shouldn't happen even if the processor is bad.

how do u use a screwdriver to do this?

It's been close to a month and you didn't look up how to start a PC with a screwdriver?:)

Anyway, just touch both power pins with the screwdriver long enough for the PC to start. Look in the mother manual to find out what are the power pins on your mobo.
