I just have been getting crashing out of games. got a bsod win 8 version (which shows a :( wtf) then MOST games after 30 minutes just close and land me on the desktop.

I have ALL latest drivers.

updated bios

unplugged my dvd burner because event viewer was talking about it...

ran memtest for 8 passes no errors.

psu shows corrects volts in bios.

crystaldisk shows 100% disk health.

anyone have any ideas?
 
Try gaming using just the onboard video to rule out a possible GPU issue.
 
I deleted the video card driver I got from AMD's website (cat 12.1) and put on the driver from Gigabyte (cat 12.1) and I no longer have any problems.
 
DOH nevermind still more problems. (had a complete lock with that looping audio buzz while playing Wizardry Online.) Seems to be the GPU because i reinstalled windows 8 after this lock and am running completely stable with onboard video. I let windows install all drivers for me *shrug*

I suppose after a few more days of testing games I'll throw the GPU back in and let windows install that driver for me?

I don't know if this is all because windows 8 has poor driver support thus far or what...

looking like im sending this GPU back. constant crashing since reinstalling...

got a replacement GPU from newegg. I was playing games with onboard for that whole week that my GPU was in the mail and no crashes or instability. Now with this new card I started getting in the reliability tool messages saying almost every game "stopped responding" when i closed them.

The biggy is just now I had Battlefield 3 hard lock to where I got that looping audio buzz from the speakers and had to hold the power button down to restart.

The reliability tab now says 'video hardware error' just like the last card did.

A second bad card? I don't have any spare computers or parts to swap anything out.

Hmmm, without spare parts or even a spare PC, it's pretty damn hard to diagnose the issue since it could be the PSU (voltages in BIOs means nothing), mobo, a second bad card, or your OS install is borked somehow.

You did connect the power connectors to the video card right?
 
Yeah its all hooked up. 8pin plus 6 pin. I used driver sweeper just now to make sure nothing installed as far as video drivers. rebooted and installed the catalyst beta 13.2... Gonna see if this helps at all.

I have a multimeter. I may lookup the pinouts on the GPU power lines. I suppose a correct voltage on these would mean PSU is fine.
 
As a quick test, could you disable the on board sound from the bios and retest?
 
k i'll try that. I reinstalled windows 8 and im going to test this one more time. Then I'll turn off the sound. Is the purpose of that to test for a flaky motherboard?
 
I wouldn't necessarily say a flaky motherboard test more so to test that you aren't having an issue with the AMD video card sound causing issues with the on board sound. Its a shot in the dark really, but you seem to have tested most everything else, and that buzzing sound out of the speakers was bothering me. Give it a shot and see though, will be interesting data point.
 
hmm, i was using a DVI cable with headphones plugged into mobo. no HDMI cable around. I guess try to reinstall video drivers without the HDMI audio driver selected..
 
well just to cap off for other people's sake, ive got windows 8 which, according to google searches, the instability may be because of flaky AMD drivers in Win 8. I just have done driver sweeper in safe mode to remove all old drivers, have cat 13.1 installed. (someone said 13.2 is a lot more stable on win 8) removed all onboard sound drivers.

everything works ok (OCD and flaky computers do NOT mix good god.)

once again, *shrug*
