We lost our Pimpage!

Yeah but at least it was replaced by something newsworth, not just something funny.

Maybe we should go and see if we can borg Quakecon. Talk about a nice points increase. :D

[H]ard|Workshop Tuneups...

We will OC... Stabalize... Prime95... F@H... Lower your Standard CPU Temps... Get rid of SPYWARE..... and a few other nifty things...

Thing is, that's going to be there until 8/31.

We need the new stream of recruits now more than ever.

I'm not saying it's wrong of [H] to put that up there, but it sorta stinks for us. We'll need to get the new members active and borging.

Recruiting drives are far more effective than borgs, though.

I DARE someone to go around to the other forums like i did when i was a n00b :)

You're just begging for some poor fool to get smacked down aren't ya?

They were nice to me...

Look how many new recruits we got too b/c of what i did ;)

one thing I did on other forums I visit is , I put cool looking hyper-link in my sig that takes people to the [H]orde.

You still are a n00b ;)

That made my day right there! :) But anyhow, I think more than anything this means we need to keep on Kyle and Steve to get us our mentions in the [H]forum happenings and see if we can get other mentions, maybe like announcements and the such that point out what we are doing down here in these parts.

whats steve's email addy? someone pm me.

( I lost it in the great Hard drive crash of 04 )

would be nice if kyle would post an article about the [Horde on the front page b/c i didnt even know we had a team.....

untill about a month ago.

just him putting up a banner that says something like.

FIGHT CANCER....
JOIN THE HORDE.

OR

RESISTANCE IS FUTILE , WE ARE THE HORDE, YOUR CPU CYCLES WILL BE USED TO FIGHT CANCER... RESISTANCE IS ..........

i bet that alone would net 100 new members and at least 25 borged boxes of those new members for a total of 125 new computers ...

and thats my low estimate.

I would tell you.. but since im such a noob... i guess i cant.

Oops too damn bad.

awwww I was only kidding. :(

Another thing we can to is , Visit the other Sub-forums here at [H] , be helpfull .
And have something in your sig to get people to look at F@H.

I think most of us have stuff in our sigs, especially those of us who are helping with the mentor program. Actually I think just about all of us active here do have something our sig. Some places it seems there is some ridicule that follows folding however...

Hey guys.... I put up posters at work this past week and have a few people comitted to folding on their home PC's. Team 33 is all I asked for.... my username would of course be a bonus. ;)
Furthermore I got a "go ahead" to borg about 60 mid to high end PC's starting in July here in the office when we cut down our internship programs and start re-imaging our PC's.
It's not much and it's a month and a half off but it's something.
I made a run around the family looking for PC's I could borg and offered to reload a few and clean a few up if they let me borg so I should be starting on 5 or 6 more this weekend.

I talked to my kids school district and I may be allowed to borg a ton of machines for at least the summer in eschange for some volunteer PC clean-up.... as long as the district superintendant doesn't change his mind.

If you think about it the front page pimpage is awesome.... but we each need to put forth an equal or greater effort to borg and get new members in our own communities and such.
I'm still a bit of a folding n00b (god I hate that word...) but I do what I can.
The more I read the more I get excited about the cause.... partially for personal reasons I care not to disclose but mostly because I get to be a part of the research and testing that I would normally not even know existed. It's as if I get to be a 'scientist for a day'. :)

Happy folding.

BakedON: I really commend you for the poster idea. I know there's been talk of letters, and such to provide information, but an actual recruitment idea outside the net is very cool. Care to share the contents of your poster with us? I'm sure this is something that some of us would be interested in seeing. And don't worry about the month and a half on those other boxen. The Aussies are expecting us to tone down about then, so 60 more on the pile will open their eyes some!

Not to mention the uber cool 30 300mhz machines someone is getting... and FLECOM's new stuff.. and logic... and mage.. and...

I work at a Hospice so getting people to participate in medical research is pretty easy compared to say an auto plant but basically:

Help find the cure! (in large point font)
Every day we here at Hospice help ease the suffering of terminally ill patients which in itself is a noble and worthy cause. But every day we ourselves suffer by losing another new friend to these illnesses.
Wouldn't it just once be nice to aid in the search for cures and treatments for these ailments and potentially extend and raise the quality of life for our friends and colleagues?
Well you can and with minimal effort.
Using your computer when it is normally inactive the folks at Stanford have found a way to basically make a 'super computer' by combining yours with millions of other PC's around the world to "fold" proteins. When the results are returned from each of these PC's they are carefully examined and put to good use in the fight against diseases like cancer.
The amount of research already being done is staggering but your help is still needed.

(Installation instructions and team information here with my username and the option for creating their own account if they care to monitor their own progress... otherwise I do it for them yada yada yada. Made sure to make "team# 33 a larger font than the rest)

If you would like more information or need help with installation please contact me at *extension# and I would be glad to assist you.

With a big personal thanks at the bottom and a copy of my signature.

It's not much but I had to get my communications deprtment to approve it.
They like to edit out certain things before I get to use our bulletin boards and send out a company email.

Hope this helps someone!

Don't go dragging me into this... I won't have any new borgs for a while yet. :(

i know a guy at work that had colon cancer... and i showed him my pc working on the cure and his eyes lit up like a christmas tree.

That sir, is priceless! :D

or how about walking up to a guy with testiculare cancer and ask "wanna help me save your balls?"

As someone who was lost numerous loved ones to cancer, I can say walking to up to someone and saying something like that would probably not be taken well.

Is that supposed to be funny?

Well it would probably only be funny if you were talking directly to the person with the illness, and you knew that they were able to have a sense of humor about it. You're right though, something like that probably wouldn't go over well with the sick persons loved one.

yeah, friends whom you know would take it well. I guess I missed that context.
sorry if I got too angry.

If you take the saving your balls comment in the context of this thread (right after the anecdote about finding a cure for the guy's ass), then I think it fits with our usual light-hearted way of dealing with a very serious subject that's at the center of what we're all doing here. My Dad's been dealing with bladder and kidney cancer on and off for years now and if we couldn't laugh about things once in a while, we would probably have killed ourselves by being miserable 24/7. It's a delicate balance of silly and serious around here and I commend everyone for generally doing a great job of knowing when to be silly and when to be serious.

Sorry if I offended you. I never thought of it that way. It was a bit of light-hearted humor. Sometimes even durng cancer awareness when they put up "how to do a testicular exam" pamphlets in the dorm shower, my and my friends still laugh about it. I only meant it that way.

Apologies if I hurt your sensitivities. :(

its all about intent, and the the intent I was good. I overreeacted.

Cancer owns my family. In fact, I am quite sure its the only thing other than violent injuries that can kill off our family members.

Well it sounds like you choose an appropriate hobby then. My Grandad died of Alzheimers about a year and a half ago and I still get a little bothered when I hear an Alzheimers joke. I don't let it get to me though because I know most people have experienced it in some form or another so even though they are joking about it, it probably means something to them personally.
