WC for X1900 ram? needed?

Here is my delema, im setting up my WCing now and im thinkin about getting the DD X1900 block when it comes out, but its 100dollars Canadian more then a simple GPU block :S so my question is, is the ram in need of active water cooling? or will ramsinks suffice?
 
Do not get those blocks they are a waste of money and supply uneeded restriction to the setup. A maze 4 with ranmsinks will be fine and give better performance.
 
Water cooling the ram is definately NOT needed, the ram on vid cards actually runs relatively cool and does just fine with sinks.

I'd actually go for a block with water cooled ram. the ram on ym 7800gt gets HOT, even with copper ram sinks. Rivia Tuner will take the ram up to 1340, but it'll crash a couple minutes into 3dmark 05, and the ram sinks are freakin HOT. Just my opinion though. If you dont plan on volt modding or pushing the ram roo far, its a waste.
 
If it's got ram on the rear of the card then you're not going to be benefiting from water cooling half of it anyways, add to that the extra weight hanging off the slot and the extra restriction on the loop and the gains are minimal.

Unless they come out with a sandwich style cooler I'd think you'd be better off avoiding it.
 
Wait till I come out with the STASIS ATx1 block if you want to keep your GPU and RAM cool without suffering any extra headloss. :D

If your not ina hurry, seconded. The early results from the NV Neptune blew me away. RAM aside, the core load temps with this block were 31C. Thats better than any block out there, period. Thats got to be damn near ambiant.

Plus, the all derlin covers are just dead sexy. :D

I'm afraid it won't be available until early March. :(

Instead of doing a rehash of the existing setup I'm always looking to improve, and I have some pretty interesting design concepts which I intend to implement into the next generation parts. ;)

What about cooling the voltage regs?

Do they get hotter when you watercool due to lack of airflow?
 
As with any WC videocard or motherboard, the vregs get very hot, and extra measures should be taken to keep them cool or you'll end up with a short lived board! :eek:

What temps are bad for the VR, how high is too high? On the X1800, X1900.
 
As stated above it the vr you have to be concerned with. If your water cooling Rads are at the top of your case . use the rear exhaust fans as an intake fan . simply turn it around. This will also evn out case pressure so as not to turn you case into a vacuum.DD also is making a heat sink for this but i am not sure there in stock yet.

With all the water cooled parts I bet that ram is getting hot because theirs no air moving over it.
 
If you are not overclocking you dont have to cool the ram. The samsung memory on these card (x1800, X1900) have a max thermal temp of 125c. I tested the memory on my X1900XT using a waterblock and no cooling at all on the memory.

Idle 35c
load 48c

Thats far from 125c
 
The memory on my x1900xtx feels VERY hot when I touch it, I have ramsinks on them.. well.. not the three under the water block barbs.

The core idles at 32c with my maze4. :D No idea what load is. Will wait for ATT to support the x1900xtx.

My advice is to get a full coverage block, they look cooler. ;)
