Watercooling Recommendations

Decent load temps. And for normal use, where the heat load varies, might be ok. I can turn off the fans to my rads and get something like that for a while but it's not sustainable; but if I keep running Prime95 continously, the heat builds up more quickly than it dissipates. Heat radiation from a normal rad, unaided by airflow, didn't seem especially efficient.

Are those 'sustained' load temps when the cooling system has "stablised", meaning when load temps stop increasing under stress? For example, my stable load temps for the (ducted) passive air cooling is around 78c, meaning the temps after running Prime95 for one hour is identical to what i get if I measure after running Prime95 after 96 hours continously.
 
I don't do temperature testing using Prime95 anymore as the only time my temps get that high are when I'm using Prime95...which has zero practical use for me.

Its not a perfect system, but it works for me. I load up every program I can in Adobe CS4, encode video and audio in premiere and sound booth, run some filters on big images in photochop, open firefox and outlook etc. and then I game for a couple hours all simultaneously, then check my temp logs.

If the max temp is under 65C (my arbitrary comfort zone) then I'm happy. I haven't seen it go over 60C in the last month and its getting 85-90F here. So I am pretty happy right now!

Best I can say is experiment, I got lucky on my chip as I can run ~4.0GHz @ 1.25v which helps my temps a lot, I know. So each setup is obviously different. Try with a 3x120 rad and get some low RPM fans and see if you can take them off 1 by 1 and notice the temp difference. That's how I did it.
 
Ok I understand. If pure real world use is the objective, where your heatload will increase and decrease, then yes, my existing WC setup will also work with most of the active fans disabled (although not so great in summer). Your temps of 60c are good however.

For me, I still prefer to get my 'sustained' load temps when the cooling system has stablised (i.e. heat generated = heat dissipated) and find that Prime 95 is one of the easist ways of achieving this. Not for practical use, but to get to the cooling system's equilibrium in the quickest, most efficient manner possible.
 
That's funny actually, I used to do almost exactly that, however for me, I found that it merely satisfied my OCD in that I never actually saw heat loads like that in real usage. I completely understand your reasoning though, good stuff either way! :)
 
Omerta all you do is go into these watercooling threads and discourage people to start. If you really care that much, go and do some experiments of your own and present them to us. Ok? Until then stop telling people air is better than water. Obviously you aren't [H]ard enough for watercooling.
 
when you try to get girls, do you tell them you overclocked your i7 to 4ghz? No one cares, and most hardware enthusiasts with some sense (especially the reviewers here) know that taking your I7 to 4ghz is rather unnecessary and mostly an e-penis thing. But I think this is a hopeless case seeing as to how you brag about your monitor's response time in your sig (most worthless spec of any monitor) lol...
