watercooling memory?

Memory water cooling is useless. It adds unnecessary heat to the loop and restriction and wont help out performance at all really.Use the money to invest in something else.

Decent airflow is all you usually need. Unless you are extreme cooling and shooting for world records you wont see much benefit. Shoot even world record overclockers dont really do more than to put a fan blowing fresh air over the RAM.

I can't remember the link, but in another forum a guy made wire clips to "float" a 120mm fan over his ram. The clips looked identical to the type you get with heatsinks to attach a fan to it. A simple idea that works great.

As for extreme cooling of the ram, it yeilds next to nothing....see this post in the super pi sticky. Actually read from post #665 down......nothing gained over just plopping a fan over the ram.

If your already watercooling then why not? Cool ram doesn't generate errors as much as hot ram does. It's a fallacy about ram adding heat to the loop because according to the same people who say you don't need it they also say it doesn't get hot.

Because the added restriction offsets any gains............. :D but with all the restriction AC has already, another set of blocks won't hurt I gusee.

Watercooling the RAM won't get it any cooler than a 120mm fan will, it will also restrict water flow greatly and add unnecessary heat to the loop.

Like these you mean?

:D

Yeah, they are mine. Bling aren't they :D

The alphacool ones looks to be more efficient as removing the heat from the memory chips, but they use super small tubing (as in super small) and needs messy hosing going to and from a distributor... and they need to be epoxied too on afaik, which isn't always a good thing for everyone, that's why I went with the Aquacomputer ones.

who cares if it actually makes the ram cooler and helps performance...

that shit is hot!

Thats the entire idea, the benefit is questionable at best. However, if you want to do it just to say your doing it then by all means go ahead. To each his own, if you want to watercool your memory then dont let anyone stop you. Buy the ram blocks and be happy with it, however dont think that you have to do it to keep the memory cool, or that it will give you a boost in performance.

That's the almost the exact words that came out of my mouth when I bought these!!!

I know it's totally and utterly pointless really in the scope of things... but my reasoning for buying these (apart from the general bling-ness) is that if they can at least cool my memory chips to the same level as a 80mm fan, then i'm happy as i've got one less fan to worry about.

The whole point of my new case build is:
1. Bling-ness
2. Because I can
3. Because I have the parts
4. Because I want to
5. Because, well... just because :D

So the Aquacomputer Ramples fit's in with each of my points perfectly!

Thats nice...I was never attacking your decision nor asking for your justifications for it....

Never said you did... was just a general reply. :p

Yeah I have been waiting for the ramplex to come to the states.

I am picking up some fo sho. AC decided to not give em to Sharka though damnit... And I am tired of ordering crap from Germany

Anyway, I saw alphacool sells 3M thermal adhesive pads so, no need for epoxy...

It is pretty clear the people who do/will watercool their ram do it for the "bling" factor and to simply remove one more fan from their case.

What most "haters" tend to forget is watercooling is used many times as a way not to run 20 fans; or silent for the slow people.

Ah but what you fail to realize is that you can achieve more than sufficient ram cooling with only the fans on your radiator (running at slow speed). But of course, once again acknowledging that would make your arguments much less attractive so you conveniently ignore that

I gather you haven't seen an Aqua Computer RamPlex? If you did you would know that it is pretty free flowing. :p

One of the beauties of a lower flowing system is that it is not as hindered by 90 degree elbows and smaller diameter tubing as much as a higher flowing system is.

I have been waiting too. AC doesn't sell to Sharka direct, as of yet, so the real issue is why IT-Trade didn't get them for Sharka when they ordered 20 of them in the end of July.

defensive post?jeezzz, dont loose your cool....

i run bh5 @ 3.5v on my dfi, it doesnt have any cooling on it....i only run 4 fans on my system, 2 120mm panaflos at 7v, and the chipset fan.....and the seasonic psu fan, pretty silent, my case do have padding etc....silence its important to me...for bling yes, i wouldnt put that on my rig, so its all a personal opinion, and i am in the caribean with a lot of humidity and hot weather all year around:(.....

The Caribbean! How I would love to live there, at the moment i'm holed up in sunny UK (that's scarcasm btw.. the weather here is sucking!)

Seen them already, .................still not woth the cash IMHO, low flow or not. but it a free country, spend your money on what you want. I use the fans from my radiator to cool my ram better that those performance robbing things and keep a those little tubes out of my system so I can work on it without all that crap in the way..................:) Propper air flow is the key ..............................

Notice the temps and the overclock. Granted the temps only apply to my system, but this shows just what a little air flow can do to cool MoBo components and not have to add all the unless performance robbing extra water blocks.

Nope, not in the least, if you would have read some of the other posts instead of insulting the American systems, you would have seen that I like and have used Alphacool and 1A-Cooling products as they offer value to the user................
Just a little proof, here's a few pics of my Alphacool system.

When have I insulted american systems? If you are referring to large bore... let me clarify..

I have 3 PCs in this household

PC 1.. Swiftech block, L20 pump, Thermochill 80.1 heatercore rad, 1/2" tubing

PC 2.. DD TDX, D4, Thermochill 120.2 heatercore rad, 1/2" tubing & DD Maze4-1 Pelt block, D4, Thermochill 120.1 heatercore rad, 1/2' tubing

PC 3.. Storm G4, DDC, Thermochill 120.2 heatercore rad, 1/2" tubing & then 8/6mm lo-flo 2nd loop

I have been using both large bore and small bore for a long while... I have never insulted these systems, i just insult the !!!!!!s (edit: is f4nb0i a naughty word?) :p

If you were referring to my 'ghetto' post... Jeez! you have no humour, everyone else who posted in reply to that knew it was a jest/joke/humour/a funneh... you just got personal. What gives?

And also.. if you read my post on another thread (to which you also replied to iirc), I openly stated that Alphacool were better in performance and cheaper than AC...

The RAM coolers are not about performance, if you have not noticed. Those who choose to do it, do it for the bling factor and because they can!

I thought is comment was funny as hell considering your pictures of the RAM coolers are with a Storm block on a separate loop.

But I'll never stop either.................

any pics of your whole rig

Thats hot. literally...

Anyways, I don't need ram cooling, my ram runs fine so I have no reason for adding cool looking articles of good fun.

But damn, that ramplex looks nice, the only problem with that for me though is that if I hav to use the standard AC tubing with it, i'd snap, heh. 3/8" on 1/2" barbs =D.

no, because it's currently stripped out whilst I RMA my 6600GT and finish up some mods to my case.
But heres a shot of something anyway...

Well you can order them with standard 6mm push-fits, 8mm compression fittings, or 3/8" hose barbs. You really can have it your way. :D

Make mine with extra cheese! Too bad the ram blocks don't really let you oc the ram more. They look pretty nice, and any heat removed is a good thing......but I really only want something that has tangible beneifts.

If you get one of those Lan Party boards that will overvolt the memory like crazy you will want something to cool them off. :D I ordered a pair of them for some bling, but since I will probably end up sooner or later with the above MB I figure I will really need them for something other than bling. They initially will just go in my computer closet as I am using some of that Corsair memory with the LED activity lights in Feeding Frenzy.
