The only component that I want to watercool is a 7970 GPU.

I saw someone make a project where they removed harddrive cage and put a 2x 120mm radiator or maybe it was a 3 x 120mm.

Does it take alot of work removing the harddrive cage and fitting the radiator and other WC parts?

Based on hardocp's review of the PNY watercooled gtx 580, and the fact that the 7970 uses less power and produces less heat, you would probably be fine with a single 120mm radiator if that is all you are water cooling...

No experience with the R2 personally, but also looking at getting one (I like the simplicity of their exterior).

The nice thing about is that it has bitumen(noise isolator).

So mixed with scythe fan's at 500rpm or 800rpm and ssd you can have dead silent PC

Looks pretty simple. From the photos it looks like the 3.5" drivebay unscrews from under the 5.25" bay so is probably removable with a few screws. Then as the 2 front fans look the correct spacing the radiator can just be bolted on.

So in this case the air is pushed out of case from front and pulled in from rear.

I have a Mugen 2 cooler still I think having the air getting in from rear will give hot case as I would want hot cpu air out.

one solution would be to have the bottom fitted with a 120mm fan for intake.
