Water system: Project: Silver Ocean

Very nice work. How did you fix (hide) your oops on the radiator grommet hole? I might have missed it. Keep the pics comming. Kudos!

Steve

He didn't fix it. He simply covered it with one of the top orange pieces. Pretty much all you can do with a whoops like that.

looks pretty sick, is there any way you can get rid of that cooler master logo though? it can still be seen a little under the three circles

just my two cents, other than that this is one of the cleanest cases i've seen!

Some sanding, then painting and sanding and painting would be able to hide that coolermaster logo, or even just sanding that part off.

The "whoops" is covered very well with the orange panel piece, i was going to put i decal over it, but no need for one, didn't know how well the panel would hide it.

Think of it as a watermark, becuase it's gonna have to stay. The airbrush paint is too thin to cover it and i dont want to go back and re sand and paint that section.

Got some glowing pics for ya.

My parts arrived today so i'm back in business.

Added the logo behind the reservoir, notice you can see it in this shot.

Filling the water took some time. It wasn't a tough task though. Just rotated the case around a few times untill all the air was out. Now i'm left with trillions of tiny bubbles.
They will eventually be gone if i just leave the pump running right?

I just plugged in one of the white 12'' lights for show.

And here is what the top looks like lit up. a couple of wires came out of the cloth, fix those later.

The plan now is to get the computer up and running. I want to make sure it actually works. dont want that warranty to run out.

Ok that is just so damn awesome looking!
I really didn't think it would look that good!
the Res window is Tits!

I'm usually fairly quiet on these forums, but I have to speak out on this case.
It frickin' ROCKS man :D Very very clean, simple and effective. You have helped inspire me with my own ideas for a casemod hehehe.

Check it out

Use anything you see, happy to inspire!

The water is almost back to the original clear bubble free look. I'm tempted to hook it all up and see if it runs, but i should probably wait till tomorrow for that.

I have a question about my temp guage, is there a good place to put it to test the water temperature?

thinking of doing custom mods for people? I could never do this because 1) I would go crazy from the amount of patience this must take and 2) my parents would kill me, literally (Mom is a court officer with a deagle X_X)

I'm sure you could pursuade them into letting you mod your computer, or at least ask if you could.

I know someone that does. If you are "qualified" or something with the gun then you are allowed to use it as your sidearm.

dont use that Xtreme Water Xchanger. its made of aluminum and will corrode very quickly when used in a copper-based loop.

corrode "very quickly"? ......... please

i'm getting sick of these types of postings, esp when done by people who have only heard of the term "galvanic corrosion" posted somewhere.

galvanic corrosion is not NEAR the problem these types of posting make it out to be, and a few simple steps can pretty much eliminate it as a problem for WC computer systems.

for the record, i ran copper and NON- anodized aluminum in my old system for almost 2 YEARS, 24/7, no coolant change, and had NO visible corrosion. coolant was simply distilled water with about 20% of a water wetter type product.

if you use either distilled water with anti-corrosion additive, or one of the pre-mixed coolants, you'll be fine. just check the coolant every 6 months or so, and clean and flush if warrented.

Edit: mechatech, that is awesome work. Nothing but props for guys who go the extra mile on details.

Yeah, that seem like quite the cannon to carry around, but ya gotta respect the choice! :D

GRR, i knew i should have used my xtreme xchanger anyway. Thats sucks, I could drain the system and still use it. I might do that after i test to make sure the computer works %100.
I need an accurate way of testing the water temperature and the xchanger was perfect for that.

The hardware is now installed and hooked up, all i have to do is press the button and hope for the best :D

update with the fully assembled pics coming soon!!

Good news and bad news
Good news is, the new computer works perfectly, It posted on the first boot. Idle temp at 26C

Bad news: DVI on both of my monitors dont work!

A while back while using my old computer the LCD screen went blank. My old computer uses a radeon 9500pro so i switched the output from DVI to the analog output. The analog worked fine, dvi didn't work at all. So i figured my DVI just died on the old card.

After booting the new computer for the frist time. I got a Blank screen with it hooked up through DVI. I'm really puzzled.

I have 2 LCD monitors and 2 cables. i've tried both monitors and switched with both cables, nothing works on either one using the DVI output. Both monitors work with the analog output on the new radeon 1800XL card though.

I don't know what to do now

The blank screen with DVI is not a problem anymore. Both monitors work fine now. I hooked them both up in their original configuration on the old computer. After windows booted i set the monitor hooked up to DVI as Primary. Now the old computer works with DVI only or DVI and analog, same for the new computer.

New problem though, (of course)

After the new computer is running for like 4 minutes the screen will either go black, or flicker slowly for a while then go black. The computer seems to be still running normally after the screen goes black. The windows CD will continue to be read and the hard drive will make its usual sound durring a read/write.
If i shut off the computer then turn it back on, it will take about 5 seconds for the screen to go black, If i leave the computer off for a while, it takes a few minutes for it to go black.

I'm thinking the video card is over heating. The heatsink fan turns kinda slow.(i thought the fan was suppose to turn fast and be sort of loud) The heatsink is warm but not extremly hot.

The CPU temp after rebooting from the initial windows setup, probably till the part where you have to hit F10 to contintue is 29C. Monitor goes black halfway through that part.

I'll mess with it some more later, if all else fails i guess i'll just RMA it.

I put my large house fan up against the computer and was able to install windows. I can get a about 30 minutes of use by using the house fan.
Definatly sending the card back. Thats ok, i wasn't done modding yet anyway :p

The video card is on its way back to newegg for a replacent.
Before sending it in I installed ATI Tools to see what temps the card was getting. Couldn't get a temperature reading. No core or mem frequency either. I checked the cards properties, It reported 8 pipelines. Maybe the onboard fan controller was messed up also, running the fan at the lowest speed.

Here are some pictures of the build and of the completed system from that day.

The Opty, really cool to see 2 CPU graph bars in the task manager!

TheOneGreatX asked- Does this case have a motherboard tray? Or an I/O Panel on the back?

This was the only way it would run for more than a few minutes. Pretty Ghetto for such a nice system :(

How's your loop configured? Is it:

Pump-->Rad-->CPU-->Res-->Pump

Am I following that correctly?

Any plans to wc the video card?

hey also, do ya really need the extra 4 usb ports down below the sound card? you already got 4 on the mobo I/O

just making you think about it if you hadnt before.

You're correct on my loop configuration, i would like to water cool the video card eventually.

Here's what will be hooked up to USB

1. Printer
2. Scanner
3. Slide/Negative Scanner
4. Webcam
5. Mouse
6. Wacom Graphics Tablet
7. Camera - Razr Phone, using usb extension cable
8. Flash memory stick. using usb extension cable

Firewire:
1. Digital Video Cam.

Nice job on the heat shrinking BTW. What'd ya use? Hair dryer or do have something better?

So after you fix your video cazrd problems, can we expect some OCing on that Opti?

A $15 heat gun from Walmart works ALOT better than a hair dryer... :D. Look in the paint department.

I used a candle lighter. It's important to not get the flame on the heatshrink, just let the heat do the work.

YOU BET!
I bought the Opteron for $280 at Monarch Computers last month, can't wait to see what it will do. I was very happy to see the 0547TPMW, looks like i got a winner, it should pw3n :D

If I could get an Opty 165 for $280, I'd reconsider using a 920D in my coming build. The damn Opties jumped to like $320 - lowest I can find is $300 at places I've never heard of.

I'm in the same boat. Should have bought the damn thing when I had the urge! Gotta slam my head against the wall now...

Haha I hear ya, I just bought one anyways though....From Monarch CBWE 0551VPMW is what they had in stock when I ordered last sunday...Now I just need some better ram like you have :p

thanks!

Origianlly i was going to buy the X2 3800+ for $324, then i found out about the opterons and tipped off to the low price at monarch from the AMD forum here on [H]. Monarch was selling the 165 for $270 but i wasn't sure at the time, the next day it went to $280 and it said limited quantity. Snatched it up quick heheh.

F U mechatech! Thanks to you, I WANT A COOLER MASTER PRAETORIAN 730 TOO!

Good job on the case mod though.

HAHA, i thought everyone was going to hate this case, it gets slammed in the cooler master gallery, everyone says eeeeww thats an UGLY case

I personally think it's great, it's not super plain like the 710 and not crazy looking like some cases.

as for the water cooling thing, I heard that the RBX blocks needs a really powerful pump to oive up to its potential. Is your pump up to the task? Oh, and I heard that the pump's supposed to sit at the lowest part of the loop, but I don't know why. Maybe someone can support/disprove what I said.
