Hello, my proscessor on my first build has been running hot lately, and I have been meaning to upgrade to water cooling for awhile, but my case does not have pre drilled holes an the only place the radiator will fit is where the exhaust fan, i would like to know where I should put it and where I should drill the holes.

My build
NZXT Apollo black mid-tower case
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811146025&Tpk=NZXT%20apollo
Radeon HD 6670 graphics card

Raidmax RX 530SS 530w PSU

16gb of veangeance DDR3 RAM

ASUS M5A97 AM3+ AMD Motherboard

an LG discdrive (got from bestbuy, dont know name but was cheaper)

AMD FX-4100 Zambezi 3.6GHz proscessor

and a SEAGATE 500gb harddrive

please look at the case, i will post my case as I have it in another post, the WC i want to get is here

I also would like to know if i could use it as exhaust, thanks!

Let me first start by saying Welcome to [H]ard Forum.

Second, lets take a look at something. There is obviously a problem as processors dont just start to run hotter out of the blue. They run hotter because something is failing with the cooling system. Likely, you have a one, two, or even a combination of things happening.

First. Have you cleaned out your heatsink of dust? That is usually the number one cause of failing air heat sinks. Dust acts as a thermal insulator (and in extreme cases a conductor of electricity). Make sure you blow out the dust on a regular basis. Unless you live in a static clean environment, we all have dust (mostly dead skin, eew) floating around in the air, and it WILL make it inside the PC.

Second, check to make sure that your fans are working properly. Fans do have a life cycle, and over time they slow down, and become weak. Make sure that your CPU fan is working properly and actually adjusting its speed based on temperature as it is supposed to (if it is PWM that is).

If the above two items check out normal, then you may want to check the thermal paste application on the CPU. If this is a factory assembled PC, its not uncommon for them to use cheap products that shrink, dry out, and crack over time which leads to thermal issues with the CPU and GPU. I cant count how many laptops I have fixed for customers that were overheating due to the crappy TIM applications that some of the big name brands use, I wont mention any names (Ahem-dell-gateway-hp-acer-ahem) - Pardon me, sorry about that.. Ive been fighting a cold).

Third, its summer, and sometimes its much warmer in the room that you think it is, and the PC is only adding to that heat, even when idling. Air cooling does just that, it transfers the heat to the air, which has to go somewhere. If the room you are in does not have adequate cooling, it will simply get warmer and warmer until the air equalized with the CPU temps, which can be upwards of 80-90*f once all is said and done. My house is chilly with the AC on, however with a 32" Tv, 27" Monitor, DVD, DVR, and my PC in the room, it can be 7-10*f warmer in that room due to the electronics. I had to add a window unit to keep the temps reasonable. Everything may be working just fine, however the temps may simply just be hotter in that room leading to warmer PCs. How hot is your PC actually getting?

I like to relate PC overheating issues to that of automobiles. Sometimes when a car overheats, many people will just start throwing parts at it, rather than look at some of the very simple solutions that may be causing the overheating problem. Ever hear of anyone ripping out their hair trying to figure out why their car is overheating, only to find out it was a bad radiator cap, only after buying a new water pump, thermostat, etc... which are all labor intensive repairs?

I used to work as a mechanic when I was going to college and now I manage an IT office and its funny how similar the problems are, and how many people will simply throw money at a problem rather than research it.

I have a very expensive and very custom watercooling loop in my personal gaming rig, so I would never tell someone NOT to water cool, however I just want you to understand that there is a problem there, and one that could potentially still be present even after adding water cooling. Rather than grow your cooling capacit to handle the problem, first fix the problem of generating too much heat. There will still be maintanence involved with sealed kits like you linked, and you will still need to reapply your TIM as well as keep the radiator clean, which are the same maintanence issues I think you are battling with now.

Now, please dont think that I am suggesting that you are throwing money at a problem rather than researching your issue, far from it. I just wanted to actually give you an informative post, unlike the one above which offers absolutely no substance at all, and provide you more than just the word "nice"

Oh also, there is an entire watercooling section under Overclocking and Cooling. You may want to check it out. Lots of useful information there.

thankyou for the advice, but i checked my airflow and made sure all of the fans were working and i made sure that my airflow is good. I just cleaned out my components yesterday. I put it in my basement at the beginning of summer because of the heat. i will adjust the fan speed thankyou for reminding me of that, but i am planning to OC my proscessor. When I built my computer I meant to put in watercooling then, but had to settle with stock, because of my budget. BTW thankyou for directing me to the other threads, I just did not know where to find them, and also, do you know a good way to keep bugs out of my case? I recently was away for a few weeks and when I cleaned it out yesterday I found a spiderweb under my drive bays.

Hmm, Im not sure about the bugs. I live in the desert and its inevidable that bugs will make their way in to various places here that I dont appreciate, including computers. I recently cleaned out a web inside my daughters computer.

Did you check your TIM yet? Thats the last reason I can think of as to why your temps are rising.

I know why, the stock cooler is not very good, but I;m just going to get a better heatsink instead
thanks though, and BTW, the bugs can be very bad, if they get caught in something important, it can be devastating. Like, if they get killed by a random discharge (IDC what anyone says all motherboards have them) then can short your computer. The only entrances is through the fans so i might just get filters.

Oh, and I would also like to know if this heatsing fits, the Hyper z600 I just do not know If the RAM or the top-mounted PSU will get in the way, I dont think so, but I would like to make sure before i buy it. here's the link.

Why don't you take your side panel off and take a picture of your computer interior.

Post it here so we can get a better idea of how much room you have.

That Coolermaster is a somewhat outdated design - and huge AND expensive. Not many places carry it anymore. You'd be better off with something like this:

More compact, high-performing and inexpensive!

Here is a picture of the space in my case, I think that it will fit, but I just want to make sure, also, does that cooler support 2 fans?

Get rid of the text between the tags other than the picture URL.

Like this:

Like that without the spaces in the first tag! Or you can click the yellow icon above the post box with the two mountains and the sun (i think thats what it is) and then just put in the image URL.

You should probably resize them a little first. :D

I know that it fits inside of the case, but based on these pictures, can it fit with my setup?

I know they are not the best pictures, here are more w/o the blue light,
pls tell me if they will fit

Ok then, Ty for the help, I will get that heatsink as soon as I can, and as for the bugs (the real kind) I have found a device that emits a frequency that keeps all spiders in a 30 ft radius away, and if I'm not using it, I am going to cover my computer with a blanket or a sheet. My computer is very blue when it is on. :D
