Watch dogs fight nvidia vs amd

None article.
It starts off by saying gameworks caused a 290x to perform like a 770, then concludes there is no performance penalty for AMD.
[H] has shown that WD is heavily reliant on video memory size.

I've been playing on my 290x @ 1080p and get 60fps vsynced most of the time with all ultra, HBAO+ high, SMAA but shadows turned down a notch.
It has used up to 3.4GB vram so far.

Did you do anything special for that? My performance doesn't even close to that with 2 290s at 1440p. When driving it's like 25-30 fps with stutter.

Disable xfire and see if you het an fps boost. I've read xfire doesn't work with watch dogs. Also do you have latest beta drivers?

Have you tried the obvious first; Disable crossfire? I'm downloading Watch Dogs now, I have a single 290 at 1440p. I'll let you know how it is.

As mentioned, try a single card.
I'm on 14.6 beta driver.
It appeared smooth with 13.12 WHQL as well but I didnt check the framerate with them.

With 14.6 there are times framerate drops to around 40fps and occasionally 30fps, but its mostly 60fps.
Hmm... I just checked framerate when driving and it is around 33 to 40fps at stock video clocks.
But it looks really smooth which is why I didnt bother examining it before, very odd.
I'm actually satisfied with how it looks/feels when driving.

Perhaps a single card will give a more uniform frame time and make it look smoother at lower framerates.
Although you are pushing a lot more pixels so you may still drop below 30fps which wont work well.

I found the best config by loading my save on the balcony and seeing what reduced the stuttering as I looked across the city.
Reducing shadows one notch down from max had the most effect.

It might be worth sitting on the game for a few weeks while the teething problems get resolved.
Hopefully they will have crossfire support fixed by then.

I was averaging 40ish FPS overall with Ultra settings at 2560x1440. This was with 14.4 drivers and one 290. It ran well. Game is very nice looking.
