SX2233, I think it's the general consensus that it is the responsibility of the seller to ensure delivery of the item to the buyer. The only time the seller would not be 100% responsible is if the buyer agreed up front to ship uninsured and take the hit if anything happened.
Imagine you bought a product from a retail outlet, and en route to your house, it was damaged. Can you imagine any scenario where you would accept still paying for half of the item with zero physical property being delivered to you? You would sue if they tried to do that, and I have little doubt you would win.
Expecting him to take any hit on this at all is nothing short of ridiculous.
