in the pic below from left to right 1,2,3,4 do not stick a galaxy 460gtx in slot 1,2,3 it gets way to hot. either the heat sink gets heat soaked to fast or the fan cant keep up.( yes fan was set at max with another fan blowing on top of them)

i know its not just the card because i have 2 of them when i swap them from spots by taking spot 4 to 3. the card in slot 3 gets way too hot again. It gets up near 100c+ and starts throttling when the galaxy in slot 4 is at 60c.

My pny cards have no issues and are at 70c. SO i had to put the pny 470 back in and put the galaxy 460gtx in the other machine. I may return this galaxy and pick up another pny.

Nice cards but not good for a 4GPU box.

hell you dont even need one that tall. maybe 3-4 inches at most just to put the fan slightly higher then the card below it.

screw that if they cant keep themselves cool then they dont need to be at the party :D:cool:

Just get a couple of 120mm fans and have them sit on top of the cards. If you still need more cooling than that get a couple of scythe "finger rippers" and have them blow cool air down the length of the card from the back

huge fan that covers all of them already and they still get too hot.

why i think the HS gets heatsoaked to fast.

Honestly, the heatsink design on those Galaxy cards was terrible.

They were widely reported to be the hottest and loudest GTX460s around, when most of the OEMs left the stock cooler in place and the temps and noise were excellent.

I was tempted by half a dozen good deals on Galaxy 460s, but I passed them up every time and ended up with three EVGAs. I'm glad I did.

I don't know how bad the Galaxy cooler is but the stock GTX 460 cooler is awesome compared to older blower style coolers. The new vapor chamber coolers are probably about equal now though.

You should replace it with a GTX 560. I want to see ppd numbers and power consumption for those.

I think I saw somewhere that PPD is quite close to the GTX 570, and if the info is true you're looking at least 18K PPD...

I would be a bit surprised if it's that high, considering it has fewer shaders than the GTX470 which maxes out around 16k ppd.

IDK, unless I'm mistaking it for a 570 which could achieve ~20K PPD with a good OC.

yeah. i suppose it's possible since today's WU don't appear to be fully utilizing the extra shaders of the higher end cards.

Couple that with the high clock speeds of the 500 series and it may be possible.

Here's one source that reports PPD at 14,300: http://www.++++++++++++++++++++/for...-nvidia-geforce-gtx-560-ti-1gb-review-17.html

They of course overclocked it to 991 mhz, which is a 20% increase from the stock of 822mhz, which results in a theoretical PPD of 17k.

edit. omg. kyle censored "hardwarecanucks.com". I wonder what they did to piss him off.

replace that in the url above.

^ I guess I must have mistaken the two cards then. Don't know why the URL blocking. It's not the only one.
