Sorry to post this here but I don't have enough posts to post to the deal forum.

2. Zotac IONITX-F-E:$179.99
3. G.SKILL F2-6400CL5D-2GBNQ:$48.99
4. Western Digital WD5000AADS:$54.99
5. Lite-On DS-8A3S-01:$39.99

* Combined Total:$373.95

Not bad I guess. Doesn't look like it can do 7.1, only 500gb HDD (Green at that), and a DVD burner.

Good entry level in my opinion, for someone who wants just a simple 5.1 setup, and isn't to extreme about using it a lot.

Shit on second thought, this might be the perfect setup for my dad.

I must have read it wrong. My bad. I thought when it says "6 channel audio" It means 5.1, learn something new everyday I guess.

nooo not an atom! ahhhhh! ;)

seriously though, i wish the atom was never invented...

Is it listed in the specs somewhere? Or is it one of those; 'You just sort of know' deals?

From http://www.nvidia.com/object/sff_ion.html

Key Benefits

* Premium DirectX 10 graphics with advanced digital display connectivity
* Full 1080p HD video with true-fidelity 7.1 audio
* NVIDIA® CUDA™ technology to accelerate the most demanding applications, vastly improving your PC’s ability to work with visual content such as video encoding
* Premium Windows experience with Windows Vista and Windows 7

Ah I was talking more about just the newegg specs. But that works too.

lol.

Also.... when did Zotac release an IONITX board with a PCIe16 slot !?

(and why is there even one, since this is a definate case of CPU bottlenecking :D).

Well, not only does a video card fit into it but you can also put in more useful things like, say, a RAID card or similar for a WHS build or a TV tuner or anything with a PCIe connector from PCIe x1 to PCIe x16.

PCIe x16 slot isn't just useful for video cards, you know.

You should learn not to totally trust those either along with their customer reviews. And yes, it is one of those "you just sort of know" deals since Ion is nothing more then an Atom CPU with a 9400 (Mobile) GPU attached and we all pretty much know what the 8000/9000 GPU can do by now.

And since it's directly connected, you don't have to worry about the S/PDIF header older nVidia cards needed.

BTW, a decent amount of users here posting about the ION being like a 9400GT....

it's not a 9400GT, not by a long shot.

It's the mobile version of the GPU, minus the dedicated memory. (which is what makes the ASUS n10j's 9300gs - with 256NM of dedicated vRAM - somewhat better then the newer ION based netbooks - which have shared ram).

BUT... the PCIe16 slot is definately going to invite video cards right in. Those slots aren't just made for RAID cards, or TV Tuners - none of which have PCIe16 cards.

IF it was made for that express purpose, then it would of been a x1, x4, and maybe even a x8 slot.

BUT there is a x16 slot - who's primary customers will likely be graphics cards (since they fill the majority of occupied x16 slots).

AND I don't know why I even typed this up.

Well lets hope that I remember that, lol.

Just keep in mind we're not saying that ION is a bad platform. In fact, it's pretty awesome. We're just warning you not to set your expectations too high. Yes it's a Geforce 9400, but no it can't play Crysis in all of it's glory.

The Ion/Atom platform beats the pants off anything Intel has right now.

ATI has a PCI-E 16x All-in-Wonder HD tuner card. http://www.amd.com/us/products/pctv/all-in-wonder-cards/Pages/all-in-wonder-cards.aspx

Granted, its a video card too, but I digress :-P

.... I think I missed you point entirely. lmao

The whole point of using a x16 slot is to being able to fit anything PCIe based into it. Like I said, PCIe z16 doesn't just mean video cards (they do make PCIe x1 and x8 video cards too)

Considering the ONLY PCIe16 cards so far, are graphics cards of some sort...

and any decent graphics card will be horribly hobbled by the ATOM CPU ('dual CPU on-die' or not), why even bother?

EDIT: even the OCZ SSD doesn't have a full-on PCIe16 slot

Okay, you miss the point. You can put anything that is PCIe based into that slot. Get off of the video card thing, it doesn't matter.

This whole thread is full of missed points it seems like, haha.

I have a AIW card still. It's from back in the day and works like poop. :]

The 3650 based one uses a 650 tuner which is a hardware encoder, all the other AIW cards use their software based bullshit.

Oh I know. You don't need to convince me, the sight of that one compared to mine pretty much tells the whole story.

Here's a picture of what mine looks like.
