I am in need of a program that plays and rips CDs to mp3.
Please do NOT say iTunes. This God awful program really fails in the playback area. You can not play back anything without futzing around with playlists. This is also the reason that Music Match Juke box is out.

I downloaded and paid for WinAmp Pro but its ripping just plain out SUCKS. I ca not get it to rip over x0.5 :mad:

What else is there out there that is an all in one program?
 
wmp10 is about the easiest way to do it

your drive might be limiting your rip speeds, not the software

I generally don't like ripping with the same program that plays my music.

I instead use Exact Audio Copy to rip all my CDs in secure mode, and then have it encode the music either in FLAC, LAME MP3, or maybe Vorbis. This is as good as it gets.

For media player, I use Foobar.

Yeah, different programs.

I use CDEX for ripping and Winamp to play.

I used to use Audiograbber and/or some obscure DOS stuff back in 97/98 (Radium!)...those were the days. We've got it easy now...a few clicks of the mouse and it's basically done. Winamp back then too. v .666. :D
 
Downloaded and tried Foobar. Crap.
What is this fetish with Playlists??
Why can't you just click on the directory you want to play and it just plays it?
No we have to piss around open the directory, select the songs, then save. What a pain in the ass.
 
You can right click on directories in the My Music folder and click Play in Media Player and it'll play everything in that directory.
 
Hey you asked for all in one and I gave you one. You can play dir just by dragging dropping.

I myself rip with EAC to flac... then if i want mp3 i use lame

I like winamp to play my files

 
Another vote for EAC and Winamp. I prefer the older versions (like 2.71) of Winamp, though.

I stand corrected. Yes a simple drag and drop or right click does the job.

This is what I have been using and it works very good. I just want something with the same interface.

As far as different programs WinAmp Pro uses LAME to encode to mp3.
 
I use WInamp Pro as well, with LAME. One program to do it all. To the OP: Any specific reason why you picked some of the most bloated software around instead of just doing a google search for some good free apps?

This is the same setup I use. Never seems to fail me. I've ripped some CDs in secure mode that were in pretty bad shape and wouldn't always play in a CD player. It took forever to rip the tracks off the CDs but they ended up coming out without any noticable pops, cracks or anything like that. It's really good.

I currently use LAME for encoding into mp3. I also use a high quality variable bitrate stereo for my options. None of this shit sounding joint stereo crap. Man, those things hurt my ears and I'm half deaf.

FLAC is probably what I'll eventually go to once I have the hard drive space to do it. The files are a lot bigger, but the sound quality is worth it if you have something other than $5 speakers.

I agree...playlists are just another layer of crap that I have to deal with to listen to my music. They are only worth a damn if you download or rip all of your music from the same place or in the exact same format...any other time your music will have so many different types of filenames or tags that playlists won't catch your whole library anyway...
 
I forgot the other half:

For playback I use Winamp with CUE and FLAC plugins.
