want to connect to windows VM with RDP. what is the easiest way with little overhead

i have some aging workstations and i was hoping to make some vms on a server and connect the workstations to the VM's on the server via RDP.

ex: workstation running some type of tiny OS with RDP capability - windows VM running on server.

any idea.

so far i have found something called. RDESKTOP
 
Windows Thin Client ?

Citrix?

Or maybe just run some N-Lite XP's. Install RDP 7 client on them, and off you go
