I would hate to work for Nvidia. If their corporate culture is half as ugly as their public-facing side, I would expect everyone there wants to kill themselves.

the guys i know at nvidia seem pretty damn happy with their jobs, wish i would qualify for that one.

No applying for me. Reason? I don't meet a single minimum requirement. lol :D Alabama is a long way from Idaho too.

Huntsville is only about an hour and a half from me but I dont think my psychology degree would help much. :D

I think it requires far less qualifications to be an astronaut for NASA.

Spoken as a true fan bot eh... ;)
I would love to work there but I do not meet a single requirement...oh well...

65nm process haven't even been around for that long.

Im orginally from Huntsville and go back from time to time to visit friends and always wondered what was done inside the nvidia building, now I know.

Seems like they may be very unhappy with some of their current staff with this whole Fermi thing. I highly doubt they're hiring at the senior level for expansion.

They also seem to be looking for a guy that definitely will be able to keep any architecture he's working on from being inefficient or underperforming. This is an obvious expectation for such a position, but it may be cluing us off that they're not entirely happy with where Fermi is sitting at the moment.

Reading far too much into it. This is the same posting they always use for these positions.. what leads you to believe otherwise? They don't adapt their generalized job descriptions to reflect such minutiae, even if it were what they felt in reality (which we have no clue about).

At any given time for a company with thousands of employees, there are tons of job openings, all the time. Intel, AMD, NVIDIA. Go look at any major job sites. You have to figure with so many people there will always be people coming/leaving, and there is always the notion of "growth".. companies don't necessarily hire just because someone is leaving. Often they want to expand teams or make duplicate teams for other efforts.

Lastly, to read so far into the description specifically in the context of Fermi is naive because NVIDIA doesn't just make GPUs, as the job description illustrates.

Agreed, this is a general VLSI design posting. They want the best guy for the job. There's nothing in there about anything Fermi specific, or even GPU specific, it in fact specifies their entire product line.

That would make more sense if the economy weren't in the gutter, the competitor is slowly taking away some of the hardware enthusiast market share, and their next product wasn't encountering issues while they are trying to deliver it. As mentioned above, their PR/Marketing is getting a bit ugly as of late, too. Your statement is fair, but there's plenty of evidence for speculation like mine. You might also remember a few similar senior positions listed from AMD/ATI when HD2000 was not quite where they wanted it. They weren't expanding, that's for damn sure.

Also, in such a position with very demanding and specific requirements, you're not looking at "employee #14 on the left just found a new job at one of these other hundreds of companies that do similar things to us." You're looking at either "oh shit, that guy got fed up and resigned" or "we just fired one of our guys because we had e-peen jealousy and now we need to replace him." That is, of course, assuming they aren't still going into the ridiculous "we're going to make a CPU replacement" area. If that's the case, and this is going to be that guy's job to head-up, I sorta pity him.

Feel free to believe this.. it's clear you're speculating without any historical data. I'm just telling you as a fact you're dead wrong :)

I've looked at NVIDIA job listings over the past few years and seen dozens of identical VLSI listings.. even during G80 era. What does that say? Oh maybe they were getting frustrated with how successful their design engineer was and fired him out of jealousy... maybe they were fearing he would get a big head and they thought it better to dispose of him early before organizing a coup of engineers! Maybe Obama's at fault! I heard he was born in Kenya!

OMG AMD is totally upset with the efficiency of 5870: http://jobview.monster.com/CAD-Spice-Modeling-Engineer-Job-Sunnyvale-CA-US-84674595.aspx

OMG AMD isn't happy with their SRAM quality: http://jobview.monster.com/Sr-SRAM-Verification-Engineer-7345-Job-Boxborough-MA-US-84289684.aspx

Wow you got all that from a job posting for one engineer at a company full of thousands of engineers? Impressive! You really should read palms or something.

That office is same one where 3DLabs moved the Intergraph Intense3D team to after they bought them out. Intense3D used to develop the Wildcat cards. Nvidia either bought some of their graphics patents or just took over the office including the engineers. Just some trivia..

You can kind of see the office from here: Nvidia Huntsville, AL

Are there really people with such experience and skillsets looking for jobs on Monster.com? I mean, I know its economic hard times and all, but good lord, where else are you going to work besides nVidia, Intel or AMD with that kind of experience?

Medical Precision surgery machinery, bio med development, etc

LOL, 7+ years of experience with 65nm process technologies...

Can you even get a job with a BSEE and basic 1 or 0.5um /Spice experience like what is taught in most Southern universities?

Of course you can. You just can't get that job. That job is not by any means entry level.

BTW "most southern universities" is a joke, right? There are maybe 15 microelectronics facilities at colleges in this country.

EDIT: I misread you. Microelectronics facility not required, I suppose they do give you some form of layout in vanilla EE, but nothing as serious as you need to actually get a job in that field right out of school.

Right. I just recall when graduating that nobody wanted entry level VLSI design engineers.

+1.

I left a few interviews knowing I would need to get an advanced degree at probably a different institution to pursue a career in chip design, so I elected to stay home and get a job in business software development to support the family.

There are some engineers at Nvidia that have roughly 1 year of experience (Austin and Portland offices), just truly depends on your exerience and background.

Most ASIC companies want either a graduate degree, or some internship experience directly in the field. It's pretty uncommon to get a (good) job in the industry without at least one of these.

There is the possibility that the requirements were based on a candidate they have in mind already. And Have to post those reqs for the HR head hunters to find the match of the candidate they already want, based on that candidates resume.
