W7 x64 and slightly dated hardware...

I have ordered my second copy of W7, and I am not sure about installing the x64 bit version. My Core 2 Duo with 4 gigs of RAM runs W7 well, but my other computer... Pentium D 2.8, 4 gigs of RAM, Nvidia 8800GT, I am unsure about.

I generally don't make posts, as I can usually find info myself, but after scouring search results, I still haven't found an answer. The two IT "professionals" I spoke to gave me conflicting advice.

Will my Pentium D run W7 x64 adequately? Would it be worth going with the x64 version?

Thank you.

All Pentium Ds are 64bit, so yes... 64bit will work, and well.

but however, the Chipset for it may not (use all of the RAM). What motherboard/chipset are you using?

Thanks for the reply. I am using Intel 975X.

Yeah, Windows 7 runs great on pretty weak hardware. I'm sure it'll run beautifully on the hardware you're planning to use.

You aren't asking about THAT weak of a computer to have any doubts of worries about how it will run. That's a Pentium D....same thing that many low end servers run. I have two Pentium D systems, an 820 and a 915, and both run Windows 7 x64 perfectly fine.
