Just thought I'd post another thread about bleeding backlight issues. Maybe if the powers that be are watching, and there are enough posts about the problem, someone will take it seriously. Maybe not.

Anyway, I just got it yesterday and I'm going to play around with it this weekend. If I still can't stand the bleeding I'm going to RMA it to Newegg on Mon.. My VP930B isn't very black and it's bleeding at the top corners more than the bottom.

I play Doom3 and a lot of other dark FPS games and it's very noticeable. Maybe I'm just extra sensitive to it. Other than that, I have no other issues with the monitor at all. It has the best color and brightness I've seen and I don't have any dead pixels either. Great monitor except for that. Thanks for the time!
 
Well that just sucks the big one. Sorry, man.

If I were you I'd just RMA it right away. There's no point in waiting, because it's been my experience that problems like that only get more annoying as time goes on. If you noticed it right away, there will be no getting used to it.

Isn't backlight bleeding a result of poor insulation around the edges? You'd think it wouldn't be that hard for LCD companies to improve upon.
 
I know! Like what the heck, tighten the frame or something! I can't believe they can put millions of transistors into a rectangle with 19" diagonal, but they can't prevent light leaking. And this is even more annoying than dead pixels. It's the main reason preventing me from getting an LCD right now, and I want one badly!

Can you post any pics of your monitor that clearly shows the problem ?

Sorry about your situation that sucks I have one as well and like I'm wondering if I should send it back.

PoweredBySoy, lol, I know man, I know. That beauty sounds and looks very promising from what you wrote.
Just make someone in Canada actually get that monitor! And make more ppl review it. The price is kinda scarry, too =( But if it really turned out to be that perfect maybe I'd go for it.
The problem in Canada is that most of the big stores where you can actually see the unit and even try it out don't carry any decent monitors, like VP930b/VP191b, Samsung 193+ or L90D+...they just carry either the "hyped-but-not-so-good" ones (ie VX924) or some no name crap like AG NEOVO or something. Damnit!
I wanna be able to at least plug it in at the store and be able to get a refund. But the small stores that DO carry decent stuff don't allow that.

Dang, mine isn't anywhere near that bad! I guess things could always be worse. I'll try to get some pics up soon of what mine is doing.

BTW, I changed my color level from SRGB to 9300K and turned the contrast down and the brightness up. The black looks "more black", if you will, and some of the bleeding went away.

You ever feel like a pioneer in a foreign land. I wish there were more people that had this monitor so that I could get a base of comparison. Everyone talked this monitor up and I wish I had had the same results. I mean, its like finding the lost city of Atlantis and you realize that it was just 4 tiki huts in the middle of the jungle and the whole legend was bullshit.

I'd really like to get some feedback from 191b ppl though. That monitor was supposed to be best 191b a few months ago, but I barely heard anything about how it is with the lights. I think I read few complaints though :(
Any 191b'ers there???
 
I sent my 930b back last week for the very same reason. Newegg made me call Viewsonic for troubleshooting / problem verification and to get a case number issued, then I called NE back with the info and they issued me an refund RMA. I was told by the first person that I talked to at Newegg that I would get 25.00 for return shipping, (which cost me 42 with ins.) and I have yet to see it, or the refund for that matter. When I called back with the case number I had to argue with the service rep to get him to agree to it. I am sure I will get my credit soon, these things don't happen instantaneously.

Too bad though, it was a superbly performing monitor except for that and that blue screen that indicates resolution that kept popping up whenever coming out of screen saver mode or going into a game that was not in the native res.

I have decided not to get another one because although a superior monitor all around I won't take a chance on another backlight bleeding problem.

Getting more and more disappointed with the VP930b and not hearing anything reports about 191b leakage issues I started looking into Samsung 193p+, you might wanna take a look at that on Trucker, looks promising. Same with 970b but there's much less info about that one.

I just got done scoping out the 970b, if it only had a pivoting screen I would grab it in a minute. (for portrait mode)

I am not a hard core gamer by any means but would prefer a monitor that does not ghost when I do play a little, the VP930b satisfied me in that area. I was even considering the samsung 204T or the 214T but the native res is so high that my wife and I would have to tone it down to 1200 X 1024 at least for our aging eyes. This is why I am concentrating on finding a good 19" and not a 20 or 21".

Eghh, it can all be so overwhelming trying to make the best decision as to how to spend your hard earned deniros.

I was never much for silver (always black) but you know I bet this would match my CM Stacker 810 nicely :) . I think I just may have to get this ;)
 
I totally understand. I actually just got the urge to get an LCD not so long ago, less than two months. I didn't know I'll have to go through such a hassle. Bu then spending time on choosing the right components usually proved right in the past, so I think it's worth it. Especially with a monitor, which you'll probably keep for many years and which you'll look at every day, or so.
I'd also like a black one more, but what can you do. I guess a perfect unit will never come. I considered 191b a dream choice a few weeks ago, now I'm hesitant because of all the blacklight crap...it really pisses me off, I'd even settle for a dead pixel or two cause it didn't bother me at all on the LCD I've tried, but the light was unacceptable.
Anyway, I like the looks of this 970b, and it seems very flexible. It's supposed to replace 193p+ which was already a good LCD, and this one is even faster.
Let us know what u decide and definitely report whatever you can after you get the unit (whatever it'll be) :)
 
I posted this in another thread, but will repost it here as it is relevant.

I've seen the pics of the bleeding and really have nothing like them. Sure, I have some slight in the corners in a dark room with a black screen, but that's bound to appear with any LCD frankly, and those circumstances will possibly make it look worse than it is.

I watch movies on a regular basis, letterbox or widescreen, and haven't noticed the nasty bleeding shown by others. No issues with games or otherwise either. I have also checked to see if I saw any color differences with dark colors as opposed to just testing an all-black screen, and no problems there either.

One important note, as it may be relevant: the default settings have it at maximum birghtness, which makes the screen unbearably bright for normal usage. I recalibrated it with the software provided. It is possible that this also reduced the bleeding, but if so, I won't consider that cheating as I'd never use it in its default "blinding light" settings anyhow.

I'm sorry for those with the problems, but I don't share them, and am as happy as can be with the monitor.

You guys aren't going to believe me, but my monitor cured itself. NFW!

Yeah, I've been gaming with it for several days now and little by little its been getting better. As of tonight, the blacks are almost perfect and the's only a very slight hint of backlight at the top corners. Not even hardly noticeable on a completely black screen. And I'm VERY picky. And I play in complete darkness.

I haven't done anything special. Just using the latest unsigned Viewsonic drivers and 5.11 Catalyst drivers. Lol, YOU guys can tell ME what happend, cause I'm lost for words.

Wow, that is VERY interesting. I tried a trick that I read a few weeks back on mine, heat it up and lay it face down to cool off. It worked but only temporarily, after a few times of being warmed up playing FPS games it came back. During the week I had mine it became worse as I used it.

It's pretty intersting though. You'd think that the leaking has sth to do with "how tightly" the panel is manufactured.
Maybe as it heated up, some components/substances used in the panel became more flexible and adjusted themselves a little so that the openings the light went through got smaller. Pure novice theory though.
Lets just hope that it'll stay like this and won't break again :)
 
dbranger, how's that 930b holding up? Is that leakage still gone or did it come back?
 
Still holding up. The only time I notice it is after gaming for an extended period of time on a "completely black" screen.

For instance. It's now 10:00pm here and I've been playing NFSMW since 6:00pm. I'm posting in this forum on a mostly black screen (as you all know of course) and I don't notice any bleeding.

So, if you can live with that (and I can), I'd say it's doing just fine! Show me a perfect LCD and I'll buy it in a minute.

BTW, my friend just built a comp. for someone and they bought a Samsung 730b or
something and it has the bleeding all the way accross the top. That would suck!
 
Oh yeah, I tried Samsung 930b and it had the same problem, but also at the bottom and slightly less on the sides. Very visible.

But now I got 193p+ and there's no bleeding :)
 
Hi guys.

About that backlight problem. Should I buy the 191 or the 930?. Did someone had backlight problems with the vp191?

They are at the same price here..so.. For me its the same. Just don´t know which one should I buy!
