From the “is-this-any-surprise” department comes a report that touch-screen voting machines in West Virginia are glitching, choosing a different candidate from the one selected. Coupled with the recent report on hacking Sequoia voting machines, this is going to be an interesting Primary. And you thought hanging chads were bad…

The scenario is depressingly similar to the one that The Simpsons predicted, where the voter selects one name, and the other one shows up as highlighted. Poll workers told them to just keep clicking until the right one was chosen, and noted that the machines have "just been doing that."

I'm really not surprised. The 2004 Diebold nonsense was swept under the rug. Not surprising with Republican majority :(

I had no problems with the one I used today in Fayette County WV when I went to do my early voting......

lol get ready for the cry's of a re-vote.. sounds like west virginia's going to suffer the bs voting california had to suffer during the primary vote when we had to vote twice for no bloody reason this year..

this is why i believe all voting must me done manually and hand counted. Electronics are to easily altered or fucked with.

Paper can also be fucked with - cue BSG (yeah, I'm referencing a fictional story).

Thing is EVERYTHING can be fucked with. There's gotta be a better way.

they just need to learn how to use a closed loop instead of relying on the internet for everything.. make it so its impossible to hack.. have it send all the information to a single data box saved on a single drive and backed up on a second and/or third drive.. then at the end of the day they come in and secure the data for counting.. its not rocket science on how to do this stuff right.. the government just sucks at doing anything right to begin with..

Oh God, here we go. Another 8 shitty years are coming our way with the idiot Bush-clone republican leading the way. And you thought your vote mattered...

8 years.. lol.. neither of these guys are going to last more then 4 years.. so dont worry about spending another 8 years with them... if mcain loses.. the republicans will relize their mistake and either beg romney or ron paul to run again for them.. and if obama loses.. the dems will beg hilary clinton to run again.. so dont expect any full term presidents for the next few elections..

watch for the hbo special hacking democracy 2.0 if by some act of god mccain wins

Paper votes are the only way to go. They can be messed with but not on a mass scale as with electronic voting. It takes longer to count paper votes, but when the vote is for a new leader then I think we can all wait a little bit longer. It was done in the past. There's no reason why it has to be done now.

Of course you want someone who deals drugs to run the electronic voting machines.

Someday people in this country - meaning the US as this is my home, unfortunately - will come to realize that your vote on November 4th (or even using the early voting option) is absolutely 100% useless and has no bearing on the election whatsoever. Do some research on our Electoral College system and get edjumicated.

The American voting public hasn't elected a President... well... ever, to be honest.

Someday things will change and the people's votes will be properly valid and actually have some merit. You're better off spending time with your family and friends on Tuesday the 4th of November than wasting it at some damned voting booth.

Yeah, it must be all those republican computer programmers out there that banded together.. It's another vast right wing conspiracy.. rofl..

If anything, we should be worried about ACORN and all their bs. Over 400,000 false registrations sent in? Having more people registered in states than there are eligible voters is a bit disturbing, especially when they're paying money and cigarettes for people to register as many as 70+ times. On top of that, there's actual voter fraud with early voter ballots being sent in by people who don't even have residency in some of these states. Over 10 states are under federal investigation as we speak. And let's take a guess who was an expert and taught ACORN worker power sessions, and represented them for lawsuits, and got millions in earmarks for the group, and funneled over $800,000 of mislabeled campaign money to their organization this year, and received a raving endorsement from them, and gave a nice speech at one of their conventions saying how closely he's worked with them...and...

its pathetic how these companies cant make a machine that outputs the letter A when you press A and the letter B when you press B

And now we get into the partisan political bashing. Whee!

On topic: I must say I prefer paper ballots. Going electronic just for the sake of going electronic is not a good reason.

ROFL
It never ceases to amaze me how badly elections are handled these days.
It seems they will stop at nothing to force through voting with technology.

This is a fault that can be seen visually.
If they leave errors in the system that can be plainly seen, their QA must suck royally.
What else have they missed?
I wouldnt trust this system, it should be withdrawn.

Paper ballots = win
Punch card voting with hanging chads = fail
Electronic voting = fail

REGISTRATIONS so what not like the same person can vote multiple times get the fuck over it

But then again, the people counting paper ballots (if by hand) can falsify numbers too. I like the paper ballot with scan-tron type counting. Bi-partisan reviews should be done to make sure the design is not flawed. A nation-wide standardized system with bi-partisan checks and balances would be nice.

Lol, so you have complete faith in electronic voting? Rofl indeed.

I really hope you don't leave in america...
if you do..watch out for CARSS ;)

You just don't get it, do you? If a right wing group was standing out in front of churches every sunday registering people over and over and over and over with hundreds of thousands of false ballots, and some of those people were sending in early voter ballots in states they didn't even qualify to vote in, your tone would be much different.

There's no need to defend the corrupt group. Sure, just let them exist and keep doing what they're doing, it has no effect on the election.

I'd rather see people go register to vote themselves, not be harassed and conned into registering dozens of times. It isn't a partisan issue.

You may want to pay attention to what's happening on college campuses. Republican/conservative groups coming out, trying to turn away student votes, hoping that many are too lazy to check that it is in fact, BULLSHIT.

Problem is - some students ARE too lazy to find out...but that's a separate issue.

I strongly condemn that, and the person should be fired.

For every one article you find like that, there are tens of thousands of false registrations.

ACORN is a non issue they are not involved with obama's campaign at all. though i love how some Californians where told they where signing something against child preds and where registered republican again not involved at all with mccains campaign both sides have their retards that will pull shit

Have already heard reports of people selecting straight ballot vote such as Democrat and yet having McCain selected as their Presidential selection.

both sides have their retards that will pull shit

Hmm, a recent "fake attack" at the ATM rings a bell. I would hope the McCain camp at least tries to distance themselves from it...otoh, if they actually planned that out - FAIL.

Yeah, ACORN is a non-issue. rofl..

When you come back to reality, let me know.

hacking democracy 2.0 i love how Florida limited early voting hours and some people on fix news saying early voting is bad for the country its only bad when the glitches that favor the rep party are discovered before anything can be done about them

when you stop watching fix news and subscribing to their bullshit let me know
I watch and read a wide variety of news sources. Since you seem much more limited and close minded in your ideas and sources, that really says a lot. At least FOX is covering the dozens/hundreds/thousands of voter registration fraud and voter fraud cases. It really goes to show what direction the media is heading these days if we can't even get coverage of potentially country-changing issues. I prefer to have a variety of sources of news so I get the big picture, not just a coveted bubble world of Obama-mania-media propaganda.

AS do i Fix news is throwing anything at the wall hopping something will stick. obama has no connection with acorn he publicly denounced ACORN for their actions so it is a non issue so what they where overzealous and some people where doing some incredibly stupid shit. again a non issue just like the rep dude signing up people as republicans saying they where signing something against child molesters. again both sides have people and groups that are behind them and have no connection to the campaign that are doing stupid shit

back on topic the voting machines should be chucked for a simple system that can not be tampered with

not just a coveted bubble world of Obama-mania-media propaganda.

Well the flip-side is a anti-Obama media propaganda. Media sources that joke about assasination (Fox), create hour-long segments on something as trivial as "sweetie-gate" (Fox). Sources that report fake, made-up attacks - hoaxes, as real news.

Mind you this is a fresh 24 hours ago. The egg is on all right-wing media faces. Maybe they should start breaking their habit of NOT doing fact-checking.

exactly, electronic voting is easily hacked, even on a closed loop, all you have to do is hack it before the election starts. Wouldn't be easy to do it, but its already been proven possible.

Absentee Ballots should be banned, yet another open gap in our voting process. Voter registration and the voting process should only be done IN PERSON.

REGISTRATIONS so what not like the same person can vote multiple times get the fuck over it

Yes, because having 100,000 people who don't exist voting (even once) is quite comforting actually.:rolleyes::rolleyes:
