Voting Machines Already Having Problems

obama has no connection with acorn he publicly denounced ACORN for their actions so it is a non issue so what they where overzealous and some people where doing some incredibly stupid shit.
That's not what his history shows.

Well the flip-side is a anti-Obama media propaganda. Media sources that joke about assasination (Fox), create hour-long segments on something as trivial as "sweetie-gate" (Fox). Sources that report fake, made-up attacks - hoaxes, as real news.

Mind you this is a fresh 24 hours ago. The egg is on all right-wing media faces. Maybe they should start breaking their habit of NOT doing fact-checking.
Another reason I use more than one news source.

Not to mention McCain doing a speech for ACORN 2 years ago, he literally goes back and forth on everything he says and the bills he once supported. The republican party's voice is getting too involved in this campaign and now McCain is so disconnected from himself. Hopefully they will tear apart this back and forth system as the republican/democrat muscle flexing has been destroying everyone's lives by mind controlling a flock of idiots in congress.

I'm suprised they continue to buy third-party and outsourced voting machines. You absolutely need the head of FBI and the CIA programmers to work on such a powerful democratic system, otherwise there will be wide open hacks and voter fraud. These errors should not be tolerated, and I'd fire that company as soon as they set that pile of crap on my desk.

its pathetic how these companies cant make a machine that outputs the letter A when you press A and the letter B when you press B

A = Obama, B=McCain

The problem's is that sometimes A=A, and sometimes A=B.

The bigger problem is that I haven't heard a single report of sometimes B=A. Apparently B=B 100%?

These voting machines that are miscounting votes are made here in Omaha, NE. Nebraska is a Republican state.

Pure coincidence that these miscounts are only going in favor of McCain?

Yeah, they designed the hardware and software with predetermined variables for which candidates are represented on which buttons. LOL

w1retap - I don't get how you won't even consider that these incidents are more than coincidences.
I mean we're not talking about seeing ghosts here. The weaknesses in technology has ALWAYS been the human element.

Every single election there's always a big right wing conspiracy when it comes to voting machines. It has been portrayed like that in every single election I can ever remember.

The reality is, they are multiple use electronic voting machines, and the parts are probably made in China. Like every electronic device, they are pieces of shit, and I have absolutely no doubts they are malfunctioning, especially with hundreds of thousands of people using them. It only takes a few glitches to make national news since it is such a sensitive issue.

On the other hand, we have ACTUAL INTENTIONAL voter fraud going on with federal investigations in over 10 states, and it hardly gets a blip of news coverage. The internet and media operates in amazing ways from my point of view.

AS do i Fix news is throwing anything at the wall hopping something will stick. obama has no connection with acorn he publicly denounced ACORN for their actions so it is a non issue so what they where overzealous and some people where doing some incredibly stupid shit. again a non issue just like the rep dude signing up people as republicans saying they where signing something against child molesters. again both sides have people and groups that are behind them and have no connection to the campaign that are doing stupid shit

oh dude calling fox news "fix news" that is clever is that owning me and other conservatives? every post you've made in this thread thus far has shown your lack of intellect and proven you're a charlatan, just like nObama.

exactly, electronic voting is easily hacked, even on a closed loop, all you have to do is hack it before the election starts. Wouldn't be easy to do it, but its already been proven possible.

Absentee Ballots should be banned, yet another open gap in our voting process. Voter registration and the voting process should only be done IN PERSON.

Yes, because having 100,000 people who don't exist voting (even once) is quite comforting actually.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

you honestly think these things are not checked ...

w1retap - I don't get how you won't even consider that these incidents are more than coincidences.

I find it amusingly ironic that his nick his wiretap, but there's nothing suspicious about this that could possibly merit some attention to him?

Come on, no one wants another election decided by the courts...

you honestly think these things are not checked ...

That is certainly suspect.
Though if the machines are being rigged, there may be checks to make sure the vote has gone the correct way ;)

Yes, but in 2000 you had voters who meant to vote for Gore accidentally vote for Buchanan, etc.

I understand your "right wing conspiracy" argument, and I'd completely agree, if I could just find one report anywhere of a vote for McCain being miscounted as one for Obama. If someone can point me to one, I'll shut up and agree with you. But right now I'm only hearing of voting irregularities on these machines going against Obama. Unlike punching the wrong hole and voting Buchanan over Gore, these people are hitting the correct button.

The story's oddly silent here. If these voting irregularities on the machines were going both ways, our news outlets here would be all over this story bashing the right wing conspiracy argument. But there's just silence. Which seems to suggest perhaps these miscounted votes really are only going one direction.

And everyone here is reporting on how many people are registering to vote here. Perhaps this time around my state isn't as solid Republican as in the past, or at least since 1964. (Or maybe they saw Palin's rally here last week and it scared them...)

(FWIW - yes, I like conspiracy stories. So, find me some report of a McCain vote going to Obama, and the conspiracy's dead to me...)

Oh, like the American public can do better. Please... go back to page one and read what I said, we've - meaning the American voting population - never elected our Presidents and until things change we never will.

Haha the electoral college debate rages on.

What's really making me sick is that one side in every election in every country pestering people to register their pets and dead familymembers votes. It's usually the side that spreads the most bullshit and makes the most personal attacks about the other alternative.

I'm going to register my hair. One vote per inch.

I watch and read a wide variety of news sources. Since you seem much more limited and close minded in your ideas and sources, that really says a lot. At least FOX is covering the dozens/hundreds/thousands of voter registration fraud and voter fraud cases. It really goes to show what direction the media is heading these days if we can't even get coverage of potentially country-changing issues. I prefer to have a variety of sources of news so I get the big picture, not just a coveted bubble world of Obama-mania-media propaganda.

You make me laugh, no really.

Voter Fraud is such a minimal issue, its ridiculous.

Ok, say a person registers as 2 different people, for them to actually cast a vote twice they have to make an effort to show up at two polling stations so they're not recognized, and have IDENTITY PAPERS FOR TWO DIFFERENT PEOPLE.

So I'm pretty sure that those who registered as famous football players, couldnt have had registering twice as a goal. Its far more likely they found it entertaining to do so.

They check drivers license, where you live, town citizenship rosters, passports, etc...

If you can really fake someones identity, theres MUCH MORE PROFITABLE REASONS to do so than to vote twice... like, say, buy a car in another person's name? or take out a loan? how about a free credit card?

The assertion that people commit voter fraud so they can actually VOTE TWICE, is dumb beyond compare.

Yes, but in 2000 you had voters who meant to vote for Gore accidentally vote for Buchanan, etc.

Ok, just stop. If someone is too stupid to be able to comprehend a simple butterfly ballot, too lazy to educate themselves regarding the type of ballot being used beforehand, perhaps they should reconsider voting at all. If you have enough time to vote, you have enough time to educate yourself on how to do it properly.

For voter fraud that wide reaching, and, (by what seems to be your thinking, organized), too many people would be involved for it to not come out, and quickly at that. There is always someone, looking for their 15 minutes, that would blow the whistle. Small scale voter fraud is a fact of the electoral system. Kennedy actually would have lost his first presidential race if dead people in Illinois had not some how managed to roll out of their graves and cast their Zombie vote. But hey, if you want to sit and pretend that the elephants are somehow orchestrating a coup while the donkeys are not, feel free. :D

Elections in this county are like on line gaming, A contest of who can hax/cheat the best.

Disgusting isn't it.

Read up on election history to see some really terrible election fraud from both sides over the years. Nobody really talks about it except at election time. And then they only point fingers and talk smack. They never really dig into it, because they know somewhere, someone on their side of the aisle is doing similar.

maybe the UK should sell the US our voting booth

piece of paper and a thick leaded pencil

has worked for centuries and no problem with counting "cad's"

I vote for this thread to be closed ASAP. It has steered off topic, and the usual Rep v Dem Bullshit has started. The truly sad part about it is that most of you are intelligent computer enthusiasts, but some turn into blabbering idiots when it comes to politics.

I am not stating I'm for any side in this argument.

Not surprised. Gwinnett County (Metro Atlanta) is having problems too.

Agreed. I don't even see this much bullshit in the soapbox in genmay! Why the hell is the front page being used as a soapbox now?

If people really want electronic voting machines (who is to say?), there should be an open-source initiative to create and implement the most logical, secure, accessible voting system possible.

I firmly believe that once people are able to vote online, democrats will reign.

What I dont understand is if our online banking system is secure enough to be entrusted with peopls livelihoods, why cant something similar be implemented for voting?

Who cares of the method when you have to present essentially every bit of your personal identifiable information when you would vote. And if it was stolen, it would be immediately noticed because it would appear as if you had cast 2 votes... upon which point, just like the current ID theft prevention companies, you'd be contacted through official channels and asked to clarify.

Maintaining a truly anonymous voting system would be difficult under your guidelines. Anonymous voting isn't going away anytime soon. If it ever does, it would surely be a step backwards in the system.

8 years.. lol.. neither of these guys are going to last more then 4 years.. so dont worry about spending another 8 years with them... if mcain loses.. the republicans will relize their mistake and either beg romney or ron paul to run again for them.. and if obama loses.. the dems will beg hilary clinton to run again.. so dont expect any full term presidents for the next few elections..

Lets just hope the Republicans fix their disintegrating party before they have another president. We don't need another whack job running things into the ground with glee. We've had enough of social fascism/financial anarchy.

Someday things will change and the people's votes will be properly valid and actually have some merit. You're better off spending time with your family and friends on Tuesday the 4th of November than wasting it at some damned voting booth.

This post brought to you by McCain 08.

:D

Lol, so you have complete faith in electronic voting? Rofl indeed.

And what you got complete faith in paper ballots? Rofl right back at you...

Every argument you can make against electronic can basically be pointed right back at paper. Of course there are a few technicalities that can only be pointed at electronic but the same is true for paper.

I swear the amount of resistance against technology that I see on these boards makes me wonder if I'm even on a technology forum sometimes:confused:

Tell that to the soldiers overseas and in training that and I'm sure they'll put you straight. And students that are learning out of state probably wont have any nice words for you as well.

Heck why dont we just go back to the old easy system of voting. If you're white, a dude, and own land please come this way to vote. All else need not apply.

Too bad... your vote was counted for 'leaving thread open'... sorry.

So you want Obama to come in with his Socialistic/Communist ideas like "spreading the wealth"? Sounds like Stalin but black.

Anyway, paper voting sounds good to me, or ScanTrons even. Only thing you gotta worry about with those is Chap-Stick lol.

I'll save them some time

Don't fix it

I don't vote

The only time any of them are telling the truth is when there calling the other candidate a Liar

The first time I'll ever vote is when there is a homeless veteran in the running

90% chance he wont just be blowing smoke up my A$$

People really should learn what Socialism truly is before even attempting to comment about it. There is a huge difference between something socialistic and Socialism. Socialism would mean the end of all private enterprise and profit. Just something that leans towards the socialistic, doesn't equate to a wholly socialistic government.

If it weren't for some socialistic aspects inherent to our culture, we'd still be using dirt paths and shitting in ditches in our back yards. I don't see anybody screaming "Socialist" when they get fresh drinking water from their faucets and can shower in the privacy and warmth of their own dwelling.. Without any form of "socialism" society would crumble, much like the economy is doing now!

It's a balancing act, nobody has ever said they want a Socialist nation, but the severe imbalance between the richest and the rest of the nation has grown so huge due to unbridled, unregulated capitalistic greed, that the system has been completely imbalanced. I mean, what do people think? That welfare for the rich is going to help, even if the rest of America doesn't even have enough to buy anything?

Money is the oil that keeps the gears of the economy from grinding to a screeching halt, once the rich have all the money, how does anybody expect businesses to continue to exist? "Spreading the wealth" is what progressive taxation has been all about since it's inception. It benefits the wealthy as well as the lower classes by keeping money circulating in the economy.

All of this isn't to say that strict regulation is the way either.. But sensible regulation is required. For the last 8 years the rich have pretty much ass-raped the middle class, Obama seems to be only seeking to re-balance the scales. This isn't "Socialism", it's common sense.

Wall Street, and to a certain extent, a lot of the wealthy brought it upon themselves by participating in an orgy of greed, therefore it should be that class of people who pay the price to fix it. And lets face it. If we don't fix the economy, it doesn't matter whether you are rich, middle class, poor, socialist, democrat or republican-- we'll all be fucked.

So, when you hear the Big Bad "S"-word, relax! A little bit of socialism, peppered in with all of the capitalism we do have, is a much better recipe than financial anarchy! :D

most of the repubs still seem stuck in the 50's. sad really.

I never understood why the US elections are so complicated.

Here in Canada, it's a matter of writing an X on the party you support, the HUMANS count the ballots and the result are announced before 11 PM 11:30 PM.

Computers are just not reliable in elections.

Well said.

Congratulations America, once again your vote is absolutely meaningless. Enjoy going through the motions while whichever novice hacker is most active elects your puppet president for you.

It is utterly pointless to vote in this country these days. Your vote is run through some of the most laughably buggy and insecure electronic systems in the world, free for anyone with a little bit of time on their hands to alter to their heart's content. And observed by poll workers who look at the machine failing to select the candidate the voter has chosen and say "oops lol, just keep pressing the button".

Seriously, I cannot fathom why we even bother anymore. I guess "I GETZ TO PICK TEH PREZIDANT LULZ" is so ingrained in people's heads that they can't acknowledge that their vote means nothing.

Don't worry, Obama will be elected and the world will rejoice in tears of happiness. Terrorists will put down their suicide bomber vests and hug friendly Americans, the sick will be healed, the seas will part, and global climate will remain a constant temperature.
