voodoo2 SLI help

I'm attempting to run a pair of voodoo2's in SLI through a voodoo3 2000 PCI in Windows XP. I've installed several different 3rd party driver sets, and have gotten them recognized by windows device manager, there being a tab in the advanced display properties for them, and games trying to use them, but it won't work. Trying to load Tribes makes an error message, and the game won't load. Other drivers don't put the tab in the display properties, but do make the cards show up in the device manager. These drivers will let the game load in window mode with software emulation, but when trying to run full screen in Glide, the screen goes completely black with the occasional flicker of the image on the screen. I don't have any other glide games to test these out with. what should I do? what are the best drivers to use? I've tryed the search function here and google but can't seem to figure it out on my own.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, But I do not think you can use Voodoo2s in conjunction with a voodoo 3.

PM mashie He has a post on this page Here where he still has the V2' set up, Not with a v3 though, He may have a answer for you.

??? Why in the #%$@ are you trying to set up such a old set up? whats is it about 24 megs ??
Good luck! When I had mine it was alwasys tough getting them to work good, Always seemed to need patch's for every game that came out back then to keep em working. I will look I think someware on a disk I have the original Voodoo drivers.

I would like to find a working voodoo 5 5500 and thow it in one of my old boxes like my 1Ghz PIII

ahhh the good old days... but of course I will be using win 98SE which would help alot of compatibility issues instead of XP

well tazmannm, I wanted to play tribes. Tribes looks its best in Glide. 2 videocards working together is cooler than a single card... therefore voodoo2's in SLI is the coolest(geekiest) way to play tribes.

More power to you! Have fun with it. I enjoy Playing Quake "1" on my Old P3 with 64 meg card than On my Main rig. Its kinda a feel for it thing I guess. Good luck

I'm still getting an error using a radeon 7000 as mashie advised. When I try to run Tribes in full screen using the voodoo 2's I receive the following error: "grSstWinOpen: need to use a valid window handle" Have you ever seen this before and more importantly do any of you have any clue how to fix this? I don't have any other glide games to test this with. Are there any other glide games I can download readily off the internet to test with?

I picked up a really nice CIB Voodoo 5 5500 AGP for my older Athlon System on Ebay for under $60. I really wanted a system that I could use with Glide :p

I think that you should try replacing the v3 with another card and see what happens?

Also, I have a voodoo2 for sale (check sig for url) if anyone needs one.

Oh I'm sorry I didnt notice.

Edit: that sounds like driver errors, try different hacked drivers?

The drivers I'm using seem to be pretty highly regarded, but I'm not sure as most 3dfx fansites it seems are in german these days. Ive been trying all the drivers I can find on the net. Anybody have anything better than fastvoodoo2 4.0 XP gold edition drivers?

Ahhh, a man after my own heart. Tribes does look much better in Glide, than OpenGL. OpenGL suffers from artifacts, and "loss" of ground. Go into the back bowl of DS side on SH to see this. It was originally software and Glide only, with OpenGL patched in at version 1.4 I believe.

Good luck getting to to run, I kept my V2's well after their time just for Tribes.

Still have a voodoo2 in on of the spare computers here, my son plays quake on it (me too occasionally).

I wonder have you tried with just one voodoo card? Or with an agp (if the 7000 is also PCI as you said the V3 was) or onboard video?

Have I tried the single voodoo2? No. I guess I could to test and see if one of these cards is f'd up, but this doesn't really seem like a hardware issue. As for trying with an AGP card, my only AGP card is on RMA at the moment. On the bright side though, I have no onboard video.

Do a search on the FS/FT forum, I saw one there going real cheap just yesterday, and believe it's still there.

Haha...I ripped out the ol' GLQuake the other day and took it for a spin. That game is great at high resolutions now that my video card can handle it :).

I have aVoodoo 5500 with the Tennmax coolers and covered in heatsinks front and back, It's still like buttah in my old AMD rig.

Have you looked at the drivers here? http://www.voodoofiles.com/category.asp?x=13

Yeah, I've searched through all of that, and have no trouble finding drivers for voodoo3/4/5's, but there is very little out there for the voodoo2's it seems. I think I may revert to win98 on this box, assuming I still have my disc/key around here somewhere.
