VMWare + XPMode = Freezing

I have a problem with VMWare and XPMode. It always freezes. The freezing seems to be completely random. It may freeze after an hour, or after a day. But it always freezes. My other VMs which are various versions of Vista, W7, and Server 2008, never freeze. It's just XPMode. It freezes on both my 2500k and x3380 system. My brother who also runs XPMode, has it freeze on his q6600 system as well. So this is clearly and issue with VMWare and XPMode.

Anyone has this issue and figured out a fix? I'm really close to just switching over to VirtualBox if I can't find a solution. I really like VMWare, but this is getting very annoying now...

Note: VMWare itself doesn't freeze. It's the operating system within VMWare that is freezing.
 
XPMode is the built into Win7 tool, are you just having problems with Win XP locking up inside VMWare workstation/player?
I have many (over 12) XP installs in vmware player and workstation that run almost 24x7 with no lock ups.
 
Yea, I'm confused. XP Mode is a VM using Microsoft's VirtualPC that's a download for Windows 7. Are you running both that and VMware Player/Workstation?
 
I'm not running Windows Virtual PC. I did setup XPMode using that, but once it was activated I imported it over into VMWare Player.
 
did you uninstall all the devices, then reinstall them all on vmware? (sound, lan, video, etc)
Sounds like theres a problem with the conversion...what app did the convert?
 
Doesn't seem like a problem worth resolving (not really a problem since you shouldn't be doing this). Why would you even want to do this?
 
In the File menu in VMWare there is a "Import Windows XP Mode VM..." option. That is what I used. Anyway, I think the freezing may have been caused by the enabling of 3D acceleration. I disabled that yesterday morning and have not had a lockup since.

Why do this? Because I run more than one VM and they all perform better inside of VMWare than they do inside of Virtual PC.
 
Interesting feature, I didn't know VMWare had that capability. I've never tried to run multiple VMs on my workstation. I use XenServer on spare GX755s for that.

and virtual pc does not support 64bit os's
 
I've been using XP Mode under VMWare Workstation 7 (now 8) for months with 3D support enabled and have not encountered lock up issues. Did you remember to uninstall the VPC integration utilities in the XP guest and install VMWare Tools?
