Now im trying the VM player thing downloaded both files VM and nonfred. reading the guide doesnt matchup with what i see on screen . priority.grabbed = "idle"
priority.ungrabbed = "idle" i dont see this?
 
Look in the *.vmx file in your VM directory and use a text editor to edit the lines.
 
in the vm player or in the nonfred files its the nonfred im looking at
 
you put that into the vmx file in your browser, not in VMplayer

It would be in the notfred folder. I don't know where it is placed on your drive but if you can't find it, do a search for all files with the extension .vmx. You should be able locate it and edit the file.
 
i extracted the nonfred straight to C: soo it says C:/folding/folding.vmx edit with word pad

Is it just the priority settings you want to change?

Use a file browser to view the folders on your hard drive. Where notfred is located, there is a file likely named folding.vmx. Once you located that file, edit it with notepad and change the necessary lines. First step, let us know if you found the .vmx file. We will direct you on the next steps afterwards..
 
Install VMware Player 3.0 so that it runs

When you've unzip notfreds you should have 2 files ............
folding.vmx <- The VMWare control file.
folding.vmdk <- The VMWare Virtual Disk Image file.

You need to the editing in the control file.
Once you have edited the control file then point VMware Player at the control file and you should then be able to run the VM.

yes i have been there all along tride to edit using wordpad those code lines are not in there at all, vm player is installed,

Got where you at.
Then just add the lines at the bottom of the vmx file.

Or you can use something like WinAFC to control the priorities of the VM & any GPU clients if you both on the same box.

You located the file?

These two lines must be in the file but they can be located anywhere:

priority.grabbed = "normal"
priority.ungrabbed = "normal"

Change the "normal" to "idle" using whatever text editor you are best familiar with.

I've just checked my vmx file.
The two lines ....
priority.grabbed = "normal"
priority.ungrabbed = "normal"
....... Are not in it.

But I did build my VM from scratch so I could run -bigadv work-units in it.
The hardest part of doing that, I found, was getting the samba shares to work through the firewall.
Once I got that working, I used Finstall to install the client and set it as a service.

I have 7 VMs installed in my main system. Two Fluxbuntu VMs, and 6 assorted others: GoblinX, Notfred, OpenGEU, TinyFlux, Xubuntu, etc. All of them have those two lines with the exception of TinyFlux, which could be due to a corrupted file. When I looked inside the TinyFlux .vmx file it was a total mess. Looked like complete gibberish and understandable why the lines were missing...

Keep in mind all of my VMs were constructed with Server, not Player. That may or may not have made a difference. Why your installation doesn't have the lines is unknown to me.

cool thanks. Im paste that part now trying to figure out how to edit this to put my name in there. vm player is running I have put in ip address

You mean VM display name or client username?
 
vm is running thought not in my name. typing in 192.168.1.3 page comes up reconfigure change setting then hit reconfigure again at bottom but its not saving my changes
 
Help please i almost have it. I just cant get ride of nonfreds name and team!

i did that it just wont take? typed in 192.168.1.3 page loads chabge his name number to mine click reboot tab click reconfigure, page reloads then nothing. i manually reboot restart vm still has his name?
 
The fold.iso will go in a Folder with your .vmx file (fold64.vmx in my case). If you have already installed VMWare 3.0 on the PC then just make a shortcut to or double click and execute the .vmx file and it should fire off.
 
Once you've downloaded the iso image.
Start VM Player -> Ctrl D -> CD Drive -> Use the iso image file.
Type in the path to the iso.
You should now be able to start a VM useing this iso image.

Not quite.
Once VM Player is running type Ctrl+D to open the hardware settings.
Click on the CD/DVD (IDE) icon and then set it to use the iso.
Now exit that screen and when you start a new VM, it will use the iso to boot from.

You can do without them or DL them another time. It's a fairly big DL and I only did it for one VM. Didn't bother for the others.

Dude, I'm with you! This is not working as planned!

Edit: I did get the .iso working OK. Just need to configure HFM to right folder to see my progress.

That thread would have instruction for monitoring progress on a VM client?

It doesn't actually; it would be a good idea to add that. Just navigate to the VM over the network and do a search for fahlog.txt. That will give you the path you need to monitor the client in HFM/FahMon/whatever.

The path to monitor the VM is this:
\\<VM IP address>\c\etc\folding\1

I don't know if there's a thread about it, but that's all the info you need.
