im just postin up some info i recently discovered.i dont know if anyone is aware of this but the new windows vista software only run up to 320mb for graphics card. if you try to put in a 512mb card, only 320mb of that card will we used, the rest is scrapped. i learnd this from a techie i called. im wonder why vist only allow320mb while the xp allow 512mb. luckily i been eyein the 320mb 8800 series, so i wont be over buying anything. the important thing is the 320bit interface part i guess. can anyone tell me how big of a difference runnin this card compared to a normal stock video card when playing a dvd.
 
hey, when i first bought my comp and looked at the specs, it says total graphics memory available (vista) 319. i started to ask ppl on this forum and no one seem to give any definite answers, so i doubt i was the only ignorant bout this fact, but when i first saw that point, i started to speculate and started to be hinting that vista will not allow more that that amount. so the techie just confirmed my speculations.
 
which trekkie confirmed these suspicions? perhaps he is "lesser"

for teh record my vista machine has 640 mb of graphics memory availuble to it so prolably something is not playing nice on your machine. i demand to know who told you this evil misinformation.

btw i apologize for my sarcastic i am going through a lot of personal emotional issues right now my dog died and i got a speeding ticket today (50 in a 25 zone) i was trying to take her to the vet so they could save her
 
I heard from my barber, who heard from his mother who heard from her internet friend clyde from long island....that that stuff in twinkies, that isn't creme.

OK here's what you do: Go back to this "techie" or whatever he calls himself, and slap him as hard as you can.

Just another quirk in vista. It will be fixed in in SP1 or even earlier.

aww man thats sad. similar thing happened to me except it was my cat. he died at the vet and I wasn't there. :(

LMAO, I live in Scotland, I've never been to the U.S. of A, seen, sniffed or eaten a "Twinkie", but that one made me laugh.

It is a quirk [with the NVidia drivers?] that affects the reporting to the user of how much RAM there is. However the card is merrily using all that RAM you bought.

They lie. Or they are incompetent. Or both. I find as a group "techie" are worse than car mechanics for bullshitting if they sense any sort of lack of knowledge in a customer. :(
 
Vista is easily the best most solid OS microsoft has ever made, and I completely stand by that.

twinkies have a 22 year shelf life, and many people estimate it to be indefinate. On "Good Eats" someone ate a 30 year old twinkie, and said it tasted exactly like a 2 week old one. Any pastry that has triple the shelf life of a battery is questionable at best.

Wow this thread is completely useless. Don't you think if Vista had that problem we would have noticed it by now?
 
Mine says I have 768MB of video memory. Not sure what the deal is with the original poster's box.

Can't confirm directly (because I don't have one) but from what I've gathered it seems to be a reporting quirk with GTS640 cards. It wouldn't surprise me if it was driver version dependant as well.

That's why I feed it 4GB. ;) I also keep it's diet free of hardware with dubious drivers and turned off that stupid, stupid UAC (and a bunch of the other "security" deadweight). Now things go much better. Of course I still have to use the 32-bit browser instead of the 64-bit if I want to see all those pretty Flashmedia ads. :( And there are things that are...different. Especially if you are writing apps for it. *shrug* Overall it's not too bad.

However people that starve it (<768MB) or mistreat it by running it on old hardware or hardware with crap drivers that still BSOD 6 months later (you know who you are) don't have such a good experience and are more inclined to say "Wow! What a pile of crap!"
