Virtual Memory Issue

I have tried several times to change my pagefile. I want to specify a particular amount to be used, but it doesn't take. I input my numbers, click on set, then ok...apply..so on and so forth. I restart my computer then. When it has restarted I will right click on "My Computer", go to the proper tab....and on that screen....at the top is says that my pagefile range on my main drive is exactly what I set it at. However...at the bottom is tells me how much is being used, what the min. is, and what it is set at....this never changes. It is always the same and never changes no matter how many times I attempt to change it.. I have even changed it via the registry. Any ideas?
 
Whenever I change the pagefile I always delete it, reboot, and then set up a new one. You can delete it by just setting no pagefile and then reboot. This may not be necessary, but it may fix your problem.

I've tried that, but I get error when restarting about not having virtual memory...so it creates a small amount.
 
I have my pagefile set at 2560 MB for both minimum and maximum amounts. XP recommends 3070 MB. If you set the minimum lower than the maximum amount it will use whatever it needs. So, the amount may be different each time you check it. If you set it the same for both it will never change.
 
How about booting the computer in safe mode, and make the changes there?
