Essentially what I'm looking for is a card of somesuch to plug into my Motherboard to RECEIVE HDMI video and audio from an XBOX 360, convert the video into VGA/DVI, and output the sound to my mobo's onboard sound and output the video to my monitor. The reason being that my monitor has no HDMI input, and I don't want to get an xbox to VGA adapter, because that's just single use only, I'd like to be able to do this with other HDMI devices, should the need arise.
 
I guess a video converter? Essentially what I want to do is convert HDMI to DVI/VGA real time, e.g., Play an xbox 360 on HDMI, plug to my PC with HDMI, and output THAT signal through a DVI/VGA input to my monitor; no need to record, but I suppose that would be a nice feature.
 
can you not use an HDMI to DVI cable? like 3 bucks and then use the audio from the regular A/V port of the Xbox360/PS3 (any other hdmi device) into your Line in input from your motherboard? (or straight into your speakers)

seems like the route you are going is a hellish way to go, especially considering the display lag that any device is going to have to capture HDMI and then encode/split and output. (this was tried years ago with video capture cards and regular composite outputs)
 
You'll need to get the audio using the AV cables from the xbox though. You can get a RCA to 3.5mm female adapter and just plug your speakers/headphones straight into that, or an RCA to 3.5mm male and route the sound through your computer. Or SPDIF to your computer if your sound card or motherboard has spdif in.
 
What do you suppose would be the best route for surround sound gaming in headphones? this is the set of headphones I've got, and I'd like to use those for audio playback, similar to a turtle beach headset or some other form of voodoo... also important to note that those headphones are USB. or do I just need to give up on using headphones and make a friend of mine bring speakers over? LOL

You are connecting both through the PC. The RCA to 3.5mm goes into the sound card line-in on your PC and you use your USB headset for sound out. Same setup as you would use if you bought the $9 XBox VGA kit only with HDMI -> DVI cable and RCA -> 3.5mm instead (or use optical if you have it):
