Ok, I'm looking to upgrade the video card on my current rig ONE LAST TIME.
(see sig)

I should be picking something up before the end of the week etc....

Budget is approx $250ish tops.

I've been on the red team for years but am really getting sick of all the driver BS.

If the card you guys recommend is a bit overkill for my current rig, no worries. I do intend to carry it over into my next build (along with the 840 Pro SSD etc)

Thanks for the help as always!

Question is, is 2GB enough? I've always tried to double my VRAM with each upgrade.
If you're playing at a resolution below 2560x1600, the answer is yes based on currently available information. However, BF4 might change that. Unfortunately we won't know until BF4's actual release if that game really will use up more than 2GB of VRAM. Though the fact that 8GB of RAM was sluggish for that games does lend some credence to the possibility that one should aim for 3GB or more for that particular game

That is, if you're actually planning on playing BF4. If you're not, that does clear up a few things.

I COULD swing this card if you guys think it would be worth it in the long run (I just won't get to eat out for a couple of weeks heh)
I would not recommend that card at that price considering the pricing of the new AMD GPUs and the price drops on some of the older AMD GPUs. Not to mention the unfortunate incomplete information regarding VRAM usage with BF4.

For the same price as the 4GB GTX 760, you're be better off (performance-wise) with the 3GB HD 7970.

The 2GB GTX 760 is fine for most games as long as you don't need to max out graphics settings. It does struggle, however, with texture-heavy games (e.g. Skyrim with multiple texture packs), high anti-aliasing, and greater monitor resolutions (2560x1440).

Well, I haven't really been a BF player since BC2. (and I don't see that changing)

As for the new AMD cards, I'd like to avoid AMD at this point because of all the driver issues I've dealt with over the past several years.

So GTX 760 2GB then? If so, brand recommendations? I prefer low-noise and a decent warranty over say, overclocking capability etc.

Sorry if I'm asking too many questions but this IS an investment and I like to think it's best to make the most educated decision.

THANKS again all.

I AM a big Skyrim player (one of the main reasons I'm thinking of switching to Nvidia etc).

The best choices for Nvidia are still Asus, Gigabyte, MSI, and EVGA.

Many people seem to prefer MSI due to its Twin Frozr HSF. It runs much quieter and cools better than the Nvidia reference HSF.

I conducted a quick search on Skyrim's VRAM requirements and it seems that 2GB is fine for 1080p, even when using some texture packs. It seems like most of the problems occur when running multiple monitors and maxing out all visual settings.

Thank you for the Skyrim info Tiraides and for both of your recommendations brand-wise.

I think I'm going to pick this up tomorrow afternoon unless you guys have a better idea??

Thanks again!

(Btw, the two of you were integral to the original build of my current rig etc. So I respect your input quite a bit. Thanks for that too..)

I'm from Dallas, so it's looking like a yes....

(As of July 2012 according to an article I just read)

So, I guess I'll stick with Newegg due to my long-term relationship with their company etc.

(Now that it's official, I'm excited. Upgrades are always a treat. Happy B-Day to me heh)

Thanks guy. For real.
