have a friend who has a E6400 overclocked to 2.8ghz with 4gb ram and currently has a 7900gtx. He wants to upgrade his video card and looking for $150 or less (new/use) card. He will be cpu limited so not sure what's the best card to upgrade to. Will be playing BC and Modern Warfare @ 1600x1200. Will a 4850 or 260gtx be overkill without getting a CPU upgrade?
 
Newegg has a sale for a brand new sapphire 4850 with 512MB for $85 including shipping. Might want to look into that, pretty good price for a relatively good card. They also had a 5670 for $90 including shipping.
 
i'd hang out in the FS section here. You can easily scoop up a GTX260 for around $150 and thats a great card for the $$
 
the Egg had a 9800GTX+ from EVGA for ~80 bucks or so
 
What PSU does your friend have? Kind of a bad idea to upgrade the video card if the PSU can't handle it.
 
seems like the 9800gtx+, 4850 and 5670 all are about equal in term of performance and all within the same price range. Not really concern about RED vs. Green and dont want to start that debate. Should he upgrade his cpu or at his resolution its fine?

PSU is cosair 550hx
 
For MW1 or MW2, don't bother upgrading the CPU. For BF:BC2, there might be a performance increase by upgrading the CPU. But definitely go with the GPU upgrade first.

The HD 5670 is slower than the HD 4850 or 9800 GTX+
 
throw another contender into the ring. Confusing on choices but love the fact that there are so many to choose from. Now comes the hard part and be patience on the FS or CL before caving in and buy new from NE.
 
I think you need atleast a 3.0 clock frequency to prevent from bottlenecking most cards now a days?
