video card/cpu question

I got a new video card, a HD 4830, and I was wondering if it would be restricted a lot by my cpu. I have a AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ 2.2GHz. I am not sure if it would be a big deal so I thought I would ask. I do a little gaming, but mostly I got this video card to play blu-ray movies on my computer. I am going to get the card from my parents house today, so before I get it and install it I thought I would ask and see if I should invest into a new cpu to match my new video card.

Yes that CPU will restrict your GPU a lot. So a new CPU might be in order. Is that a socket 939 X2 4200+ or a socket AM2 X2 4200+?
 
well i guess now that i already posted on this one ill ask, im looking for a new mobo, memory, and cpu. I would like to spend as little as possible, yet still good enough to take advantage of my new video card. If any one would like to take a look for those three items it would be appreciated.

You would need too overclock the CPU to 3.3 GHz to see the best results.

Not anymore. In fact, Intel now holds the crown for CPU performance ever since July 2006 with the release of the Core 2 Duo CPUs.

Granted AMD does have a few CPUs that perform on par with Core 2 Duo CPUs. However, once overclocking is involved, the Core 2 Duos are the better buy since Core 2 Duo based CPUs can OC higher than and perform faster clock for clock than most AMD CPUs.

Anyway, lt_shiro's build is an excellent choice for the money. Can't really go cheaper than that without sacrificing some serious quality and performance.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but on the motherboard it says the memory is DDR2 1066, but this one is DDR2 800. Was this intentional and I dont know something?


also, is a 939 in 06 bad? Again sorry if it is a stupid question, but I believe that the processor was roughly $150 then.
 
The motherboard can support DDR2 speeds of up to DDR2 1066, but it can also accept slower memory. Most processors run fine with DDR2 667 RAM; the faster speeds help those who are overclocking. Because of its price and reliability, stick with lt_shiro's RAM recommendation.

enginurd's comment on your Socket 939 purchase was made because that was the year than AMD's AM2 platform took over as a viable option. Regardless, it makes no sense to continue updating your Socket 939 setup now.
 
Intel cut prices on proc according to SD guys, that e5200 will be $64 bones. Keep your eye open
 
Keep in mind, you should be able to sell your old parts to help offset the cost of the upgrade. ;)
 
The efficiency levels of this powersupply is alot better than your current one. Dyna is rated at +3.3V@30A,+5V@38A,+12@28A,-12V@1A,+5VSB@2A with efficiency of 68%. While the corsair is rate at +3.3V@30A,+5V@20A,+12V@41A,-12V@0.8A,+5VSB@3A with efficiency of 85%.
