i have an HP omnibook xe4100 with an S3 Graphics TwisterT HP video card. the darn thing doesn't support T&L (Transform and Lighting), and i cant replace it because its my school laptop and i cant mess with it until i graduate. can i upgrade the driver or something to make this POS support T&L, or am i just outta luck?

There were some drivers for tnt2 which emulated T&l am not sure about your card though...

If the hardware doesn't have T&L built into it, you cannot make it support T&L. T&L is part of the graphics core that is built in.

If you can find something to emulate the T&L engine, it probably wouldn't be worth it anyway. The amount of the processor it would have to use would be very high and I doubt you have the processor power to spare anyway.
