Hi, i was referred to these forums from a friend. I would considered by self comfortable with computers, i use them a lot, but i have in no means the knowledge base of the users here. So heres my problem:
I recently switched computers (hardware issues on my old one). This computer is better than my old on in every way (quad core 2.4 gig, 4 gig ram, 512 mb video card) and I have an issue relating to video playback:
GPU is a ATI Radeon HD 3400 Series
I installed my old webcam (the settings are the exact same as they were on my other computer), not only is the frame rate drastically reduced, but the video lags behind the audio a few seconds. This is noticed when I create videos offline and on other peoples videos (ex skype) as well. Now here's the weirdest thing: if my computer is processing really hard, (ie installing something), or if i drag a window around the screen while watching my webcam, the frame rate of my webcam increases! I can think of no logical reason for this but im hoping it is possible a symptom of what is causing this.
Now if i go to my display options, and go to troubleshoot and reduce my hardware acceleration to exactly half, (the one that says i may have issues with directdraw or direct3d) it fixes it. However this not only limits my computer use to nothing involving directx, if I restart my system I get an incompatability warning from my graphics card catalyst centre and it goes back to reduced framerate (still at reduce acceleration). For it to work again i have to move the bar back up, and back down.
I've updated all of my drivers, and i've downloaded updated versions of quicktime, flash player, windows media player, divX, direct x, fddshow etc. Nothing changes. I have asbolutely no idea whats causing this.
