Vertex 2 RAID 0 Vs Intel G1 Raid0?

If 4KB random write is the most important to you, then you are correct that the Sandforce SSDs will beat the Crucial C300. But the C300 does better at sequential and random reads, which are more frequent than writes for most people using SSDs.

Yeah but this is 100% uncompressable data, give at least +30% performance to Vertex 2 because this is very unlikely to happen in average usage, the real result lies somewhere in the middle. Point being even in the situation when data is 100% uncompressable which favour C300 the Vertex 2 is close, so all in all it is a very good SSD as well.

Nope, the Sandforce controller cannot compress most realistic data very much. Certainly not 30% (70% compression ratio). Unless you are writing a lot of simplistic, repetitive data to your drive, I would not count on anything better than 90% compression ratio.

So here's a shot at trying to get things to a close:

While Sandforce SSD's specs are exaggerated, do you two (john4200 and AgentQ) agree that a Sandforce based SSD would still be a good buy assuming that it's priced significantly lower than a Crucial and Intel SSD? Especially considering that the many SSD deals are for Sandforce SSD and that a Sandforce would more than likely still be fairly fast for real world usage, unknown specs notwithstanding?

so I didn't realize that the Data Storage Systems visitors were as oblivious to the difference between real-world benchmarks and manufacturer's specifications
Well considering that virtually any halfway decent SSD manufacturer actually lists real world speeds, it's not exactly out of the question to be a tad annoyed if a SSD cannot meet manufacturer's own specifications.
