Verizon Responds To Net Neutrality Vote

What are you talking about? The U.S. government created the damn internet!

What government employees built it again? What tech was used? Who made the equipment? All the government did was take money from the general public through taxes and gave it to private companies and said build this. The the government says see what we built. The hands it over to the private companies then we get the real internet.

yeah, wait till the government gets involved. Be careful what you wish for. The internet is NOT a utility it is a luxury just like a cell phone. You don't have to have this. Think of it this way you spend billions on infrastructure to then have the US government which knows nothing on the subject is now making rules that you WILL abide by. Still seems fair?

The internet ceased to be a luxury years ago, even when you aren't engaging with it directly everything else around your is reliant on it. Modern society requires it to function.

Do learn your history.

J. C. R. Licklider of ARPANET.

Until someone sets off an EM pulse.
Then kids will have to learn how to go out side and play ball :)

Actually I can see a large portion of the population starving to death as they wait in line for the Apple store to open :)

....
By mid-1968, Taylor had prepared a complete plan for a computer network, and, after ARPA's approval, a Request for Quotation (RFQ) was sent to 140 potential bidders.

yeah only 40% have connected to the internet. I hardly say it is a utility.

the Federal Communications Commission
approved an order urged by President Obama that imposes rules on
broadband Internet services that were written in the era of the steam
locomotive and the telegraph.

Ah ok, so any rule back then must obviously be too shortsighted and probably lacks relevance in today's society. Care to rewrite the 1st and 2nd amendments while you're busy deciding what rules still have value in our society todya?

The initial ARPANET consisted of four IMPs:[19]

University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where Leonard Kleinrock had established a Network Measurement Center, with an SDSSigma 7 being the first computer attached to it;
The Augmentation Research Center at Stanford Research Institute (now SRI International), where Douglas Engelbart had created the ground-breaking NLS system, a very important early hypertext system, and would run the Network Information Center (NIC), with the SDS 940 that ran NLS, named "Genie", being the first host attached;
University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB), with the Culler-Fried Interactive Mathematics Center's IBM 360/75, running OS/MVT being the machine attached;
The University of Utah's Computer Science Department, where Ivan Sutherland had moved, running a DEC PDP-10 operating on TENEX.

Looks at all those private organizations ;)

Again, even without direct usage you are still reliant on it existing. You can not own a car but that doesn't make a highway any less of a public utility, unless you actively want to stop the trucking industry from shipping food to your local supermarket.

Are you saying that without the government, roads, bridges and the internet wouldn't exist? The tax payers paid for the roads to be built by private companies, the only thing the government did was take money from you and I to pay private companies to build it, then the government says look what we build when the only thing the government did was be the middle man. The Obama gets on stage and tells the American public and says "you didn't build that". The only thing the government is good at is blowing hard working peoples money.

Yes, the interstate travel system is a great example of "blowing hard working peoples money" Holy fuck.:rolleyes:

Awww, are socialistic laws imposing on Verizon's corrupt-capitalism?

*grabs popcorn*

Good grief, I am saying is the private companies that build the interstate system could have built it just the same from private companies and not the government.

Oooh, Shill or Troll, my favorite game! :D

Cause corporations, free of regulations that require a certainly quality of service ALWAYS provide more than they would if they were regulated.

That's why before this vote, we never had data caps, market collusion, speed throttling, anti competitive behaviour, price gouging, etc...

Mullet is clearly seeing beyond: Without the withered corporate teat to suck on, rape us for profits... we will be doomed, DOOMED to suffer the indignity of actually getting what we paid for.

I just have this to say to Verizon and the rest:

All I know is this:

If Verizon (and other telecoms) are crying so much about being classified Title II, it must be in some way better for the consumer.

I have not done enough research on the topic to say this move by the FCC is 100% correct, but I will say it is a step in the right direction. Consumers so desperately need competition in residential broadband.

I have 50/20 in my area from Comcast - Which is fast enough for me - but ATT can be barely muster 3/.768. That is no competition if you ask me.

Don't worry the government with it's new regulations will save you money. If you like your mobile phone plan you can keep your mobile phone plan. If you feel you are being raped on your bill then switch carriers. Is Verizon charge a lot for their services YES I think so but their service for me works great.

So you think that there's a private company that goes around the US throwing up roads on it's own for free without it being compensated? Hold on.....LMAO...LOL

Do the employees of this company look like this?

where-sendak-592x395.jpg

LOL....If so then that could explain everything.

Net Neutrality is the beginning of the end, folks. Writing's on the wall. It's only a matter of time before the government steps in and starts imposing antiquated 1780s rules on free speech. (Know what else they had back then? Slavery!) Keep the government out of public opinion! They can only muck things up. If I ever want my voice heard, I'll find a private company, one with a trustworthy newspaper or tv reporter, to make it known.

So private companies can't build roads? Toll roads? Only the government can do this? I never said for free. Look at all of the taxes we pay for roads and the government just blows it on BS.

Yeah because they haven't been caught red-handed price fixing, colluding, or any other slew of illegal activities. /eyeroll.

I'm having to fight time warner for them illegally opening a second internet account in my name at an adjacent apartment, rather than transfer my account. Visa sided with me on the disputed claim, Time warner agreed I didn't owe them any money and issued me a refund. Now I got a letter from a collection agency for Time Warner..

Super fucking trustworthy... The best thing about Telcos (ATT/Verizon/Time Warner) is they all have a "we can't email you or send you any confirmation of this conversation" policy. They "annotate your account" which, conveniently never gets saved.

Dude, it's only, like, illegal 'cuz the government, like, makes it illegal. Doesn't that blow your mind? The Feds just wanna take, take, take and not share at all, man.

You SIR ARE WRONG,

Web access is a utility NOW just try to apply for a job or pay a bill without it.
Most power and gas utilities out here don't have local offices anymore.

I don't give a rat's about Verizon...but the fact is that the federal government now runs the internet...hahaha...thanks the leftists

They can cut it all of RIGHT NOW!, if they wanted but they can also blow your house up with a drone or give you a million dollars too.

This is perfect. Verizon is EXTRA Salty because they have to actually obey some rules now since this is a dramatic cut across their mobile LTE network.

Loving the reaction. Seeing Conservatives say its end times is also priceless. You fucking Conservative types are almost always morons but you do provide me a hearty chuckle.

So private companies can't build roads? Toll roads? Only the government can do this? I never said for free. Look at all of the taxes we pay for roads and the government just blows it on BS.

No, private companies cannot build roads, except on land they own. Only government can use eminent domain, and without that there are no roads. The design standards used for highways are developed by a government only association, AASHTO. Research for highway design including structures, pavements, and all things involving transportation are coordinated by states or at the Federal level with agencies such as the TRB.

The consultants hired to design highways are qualified by, selected by, reviewed by, and evaluated by state highway transportation agencies. Same with contractors, even in design build projects where design and construction occur relatively simultaneously. Use of Federal money in projects requires oversight by both FHWA and the state highway agency to ensure money is spent properly.

Planning for transportation, including evaluating system operation, land use and the resulting trip generation, traffic modeling is almost entirely performed by state highway agencies or Metropolitan Planning Agencies (MPOs). Determining what projects are needed, either for new capacity or for system preservation are determined by local governments or state highway agencies.

P3 is a tool that has come about relatively recently where a private investment company may be given a concession to provide design/build/operate or combination thereof to leverage private dollars in the initial construction of transportation projects. Typically the investors recover their initial investment and a profit by the use of tolls over an established time period. This model is usually limited to very expensive projects where tolling is practical to recover at least a part of the construction cost. But tolling on the general highway system is completely impractical with current technology.

So no, there is no highway system without government. Private companies play a vital role for sure, but without government oversight, standards, planning, property acquisition and funding, there are no highways. Do you really think a state legislature could just cut a check each year to a consultant and say 'go do road stuff with this money'?

Wait.. did someone just say only government can use emminent domain? Sure.. and ANYONE willing to sue for it. Yeesh..

Republicans like throttle internet and overpriced plans - it's God's plan didn't you know? Just ask John Boner.

They're rich and can afford it. We poor scrubs don't need healthy competition in the broadband market, now, do we? /s
