There will always be people that feel hurt. I am sure those people that already built systems have already purchased a video card. no? I doubt they are waiting for vega. This is to move the cards nothing else.

My gaming system, 6700k, the entire system I got for oh 900 bucks + 700 bucks for the graphics card, 1600 bucks and that system has 64 gb of ram and 1080ti. 4k monitor cost me oh 1000 bucks but got that back 1.5 years ago. Its not the greatest monitor, but it works for what it is, for gaming its going to beat the pants off of thread ripper + vega and still be cheaper by a lot. And its all much older tech!

I guess you could do that but the monitor they give you a coupon for (Samsung CF791) sells for $950. If you buy it for $750 with the coupon and try to sell it for say $900 you are likely only to get about $750 after eBay fees and shipping for example. You might be able to recover like $100 of value by trying craigslist or selling it on a forum but I would guess a $900 monitor will be tricky to sell.

It's interesting that RTG decided to do their own "Founder's Edition" style gimmick with their LE cards and it seems much more elaborate than how Nvidia did it before by bundling games and discount coupons for Freesync displays and Ryzen CPUs/boards so at the same time they're trying to lock you into their ecosystem while presenting "better" value on the surface to make the Vega line look the least bit competitive against the 1070/1080/1080Ti. Seems to me that in the past year or so, AMD's marketing department must have been racking their brains to come up with all this especially the trickle marketing and the Freesync value angle they've been pushing lately. As the inevitable launch approaches, it's starting to get clearer that RX Vega would be a hard sell on its own with the kind of product the marketing people have to work with performance-wise and with the profit margin pricing targets they have to achieve considering the larger GPU, HBM2, production yields, and heavier duty power circuitry these cards require.

Looks like draw steam binning restarizer is still not enabled in Vega and will be enabled by launch of rx Vega GPU! Looks like their driver team is pure shit or something went wrong with DSBR and they are doing a driver workaround to get minimum benefit without stability issues. Who knows. To me it's seems like AMD driver team is very incompetent. I would love to know if Nvidia has more quantity than AMD when it comes to driver team or they are just smarter and AMD needs to hire some smarter programmers that understand their hardware better. It's not that AMDs architecture gets better performance over time. It's just nvidia get some the best performance from the gate and AMD driver team lacks talent or man power and is way slower in optimizing to their architecture to max speed from the start.

I am thinking, with the 150w TDP they are shooting for, this is going to be a RX Vega 48 Nano...?

I might just have to go with the stock RX Vega 64 Liquid Cooled / 120 AIO GPU & throw a Cooler Master MasterLiquid 120 AIO on the Ryzen R7 1700 CPU...

I hope my Corsair SF600 SFX PSU is up to the task...!

I know. AMD marketing is just basically trying to soften the blow with all the trickle marketing and polishing a turd to convince you to buy it and while they're at it, they're trying to sell you their other stuff to go along with the purchase. That's sales for ya.

If there's one thing that nvidia does right is that they begin their marketing with an undisputedly strong product and value-adds from there.

Bad example, the CF791 has been down to ~$650 pretty regularly and as low as $550 for a refurb. Doubt you would be able to sell it for $750 even.

Seriously, if the Nano is 150 W, it is going to perform like a GTX 1060, while using a die the size of Titan.

This is not good news unless you like dark humor. Nothing can really disguise how badly AMD shit the bed.
 
You know things are bad when even the diehard AMD fans over at Anandtech forums are calling for Raja's head lol!

AMD should dismantle RTG and sell it to Qualcomm or Intel and focus on CPUs. Either that or just stick to APUs and custom SoC designs for consoles with a bare minimum GPU design team. Trying to compete with NVIDIA is just not in the cards for them. Pretty sure I've said this many times before but the GPU wars have been over and NVIDIA won long ago and are untouchable.

I think their greatest engineering achievement with Vega is getting the clocks so high on their GCN wide architecture, it is seriously impressive they can now sustain over 1400MHz - ignoring the very top figure because that will not apply to all and requires a more extreme setup and modification (messing around a lot with voltage/fans/performance envelope).
Two areas let them down; the GCN core architecture no longer scales (for now anyway) and this has let Nvidia catch up (especially moving forward with Volta) in terms of compute where before Nvidia was heavily behind even in the days of Maxwell, and also still seems they are having challenges greatly increasing performance of the visual front end game related functions but it is early days for now regarding this factor (sounds like it requires a fair amount of work from both AMD and devs though just like some of us were saying).

Looks like avg frame rates werent beating the 1080 so that's why they are releasing min frame rate comparisons now.

The minimums presentation makes it look like they are hiding something, failure to compete on averages being the most likely culprit. Minimums are very important obviously, but if you knew a game had an average framerate of 125, a minimum of 20 at one point in the game, but over 60 the rest of the time would you buy a card with a minimum of 30 and an average of 65?

Maybe- but it would depend on your monitor, gaming style, and settings used in the benchmark. A twitch gamer on a 200Hz monitor wouldn't want the latter and an RPG player on a 60Hz panel might prefer the 30 minimum if both benches run at Ultra settings.

The minimum is also a nasty skew presentation and one slide everyone should ignore.
The reason is they deliberately include Deus Ex Mankind, Hitman, Warhammer and these games have big hits on Nvidia GPUs and were really designed to work well with AMD, those 3 games make up 1/3 of the list.
So if you take those three games out (they are not even truly DX12 engines but a fudge) the minimum list would change noticably.
If someone wants to argue it is fair to keep them, then they should also consider games exist that receive a massive jump with Nvidia GPUs.

If Vega "trades blows" with GTX 1080, and the 980Ti trades blows with the 1080 when overclocked (because yes you can gain over 30% vs reference) then we have the hilarious situation where the card that was competing with Fiji is now comfortably competing with its successor, and drawing similar amounts of power.

I think these cards are only going to look worse when they get into reviewers hands. AMD was very selective as to which games they picked for performance comparisons. Theres also the heat output and how much noise these cards are going to make that needs to be factored in as well.

The latest news does make me wonder how this is going to fit into the iMac Pro coming out in December (supposedly). The thermal envelope is going to be very interesting with a Vega + an 18c/36t Xeon in there... :wtf:
