Valve Giving Portal Away FREE

Yeah, it works alright. After all, it's still just a mouse.

With all of the discussion there is about mice I think few PC non-causal gamers agree with this. Just at the discussion around here for just mouse pads.

Valve... I... I think I love you.

And I bought portal long ago.

<3 Only cool publisher left.

Downloaded, played it, and beat it... I think. At least I was asked to put the device down and lay on the floor lol

Was there more? I want some cake now.

You'll know when you get to the end, because the greatest credit sequence *ever* starts. Seriously, Portal's ending credits are better than most games.

For those who suck and don't want to actually beat portal to see the ending, here it is on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y6ljFaKRTrI

There's a picture on the Steam blog/news page of the 3 main dudes at Valve in the post about today's release of Steam for OSX. What I found most hilarious about the image is that they're using Dell monitors, and a Microsoft keyboard and mouse, attached to a Mac mini (that's what appears in the image) running OSX. :D

I mean, they could be using a MacPro under the desk out of view but, the sheer fact that they're working on software for OSX using OSX but not any of the peripherals just really got me chuckling...

Looks like a Mac Mini and a Macbook or Macbook pro to me. I use a Dell 2407FWP on mine so not really that surprising to me.

Performance was great for me. Though that isn't all that surprising for Portal. I am more curious to see how TF2 does.

Portal runs well on just about anything besides a low end netbook these days.

I'm not a Mac guy, but we use them at work, so I downloaded it and tried it out. Runs pretty poorly on the iMacs we have (2.66ghz core 2 duo, 4GB 1066 DDR3, 256MB Geforce 9400) but not enough to keep productivity going down to nothing for an hour ;) I had to run it in at 1024x768 with mostly medium settings to get about 20-25 FPS.

Ouch. That's... yeah, something's wrong. I was able to run Portal pretty well on a Radeon 1300 256MB card at that resolution. My previous system ran it beautifully... 2.0Ghz C2D with 2GB Ram (at the time) on a GeForce 7700. Slight edge on video on my end, you have a bigger edge on CPU power on yours. I was able to do 1440x900 windowed and had no problem keeping it above 40fps then with higher than medium settings. But maybe things will improve ... certainly does seem like you should be able to play it much better than you are playing it now.

Oh wow. I would say you're probably only about half way through the entire game. Have fun! (And it's no exaggeration or understatement. You're missing out on one of the best credit sequences you will ever see.)

Now does it expire after the 24th or are we able to keep it afterward and anyone that doesn't get it is shit out of luck? I mean what if I delete it? Will it stay on my list? Can anyone fill me in?

Those who get it now will keep it forever.

If you got the Partygoer achievement for making the correct party escort submission position decision, then yes, I'd say you should get cake. Just wait.

(It's amazing how many people miss the joke when you don't include a ;). E.g. ...)

That's not the ending, there's more

Actually couldn't get it to run very well on my lappy. laggy with even windowed reduced resolution: vista 32, Intel Core 2 DUO T5750 2.00GHz, 3 GB RAM, Mobile Intel GMA X3100. Software Rendering didn't really help either. That was with the Portal Prelude mod though.

I tried all night and it was too busy to allow download - I will have to give it a shot when I get off of work.

I downloaded last night at 12am cst. Would have sooner if I was paying attention to the [H]. No problems with download. I was getting 2.3 MB/s by the time it finished.

Picked it up on the Steam sale for $5 and I still haven't played it yet...darn Steam sales causing huge game backlogs. :p

Now a couple friends who haven't gotten it yet have no excuse now.

once you have an account and a game you can always reload the game using your account.
just pray apple never buys them.... :D
