Looking for some new (not necessarily meaning recent) games to play, realized every single one is made from Valve. I want to try CS:S for FPS practice, TF2 for team-play and need to buy L4D eventually. Also I want all those Half-Life's, I love every single one of them so far but never played the first original one.

Question: Is the Valve Complete Pack something I can get physically in discs? I would love to have it that way, because downloading all those would take shit loads of time...

I know but what about the other bazillion games on there, the deal is awesome but I was wondering why we cant get it in physical media...

Actually if you have a fairly fast connection, all of those games would get dled in a couple hours, i have a 7mb down connection, and i usually have 2mbs down dling from steam

Yeah i wish you could. I HATE digital copies and never buy games on steam. But then again, you miss out on a decent deal like this

Answer: No, you cannot. Your options are to suck it up and purchase through Steam, or to buy them individually through retail.

Point being?

Some people like having the physical copies, I really don't want to download them and would rather have them in a disc so I can install one at a time.

Point being he can download the ones he wants to play now and save the rest for later as he said he didn't want to download them all. *lightbulb*
I like having physical copies too, but deal with it if you can't. Tough.

couldn't he just right click the games individually and choose "backup game files" then install the games back whenever? just another option if redownloading is the primary issue. Probably can be burned off and only have to dl once. I like hardcopies too.. but there are conviences that come with using steam.

I understand that you like the physical media. I understand that it would take a shitload of time to DL them all.

BUT........

If there was ONE thing I would buy off of Steam, this is it. The total Valve pack. You will have these games forever and be able to play them on whatever machine you build from now on and they represent some of the greatest PC gaming ever created.

Now, when it comes to non-Valve games off of Steam. I think twice, thrice and then think again. I've only purchased 2 non-Valve games and I don't think I ever will again. They take their sweet shitting time getting patches out AND if the game sucks........your stuck with it.

Just my .02

The complete pack is an awesome deal, go for it. Do you really need physical media? I just load Steam if I ever format and just let it download it everything, it doesn't take that long.

You could always burn your games to disc. You'll have physical media then....kinda.

Okay the only reason I asked is because I see a re-format in the future and my desktop is on a pretty crappy wireless connection through a PCI card. That's why I don't want to have to redownload aaaaall those games, because its about 20-21 games on there and it would be brutal on this connection.

And if I do choose to burn the games, then I would have the physical formats. Why say kinda? Is there a catch?

Well I mean you wouldn't have any nice box or manual or cover.

Or you can just keep the entire Steam directory on a different partition/drive. Then after you format, download and install the Steam client and point it to that directory. Login and you're done, all your games will work without being redownloaded.

QFT!

Okay I just downloaded TF2, where do I find the files to back it up so I can later use it for Steam to point to?

In Steam...goto File --> Back Games...Self Explanatory from there. You can then burn that backup off and POOF! physical media.

Once you download one of the games based of HL2 the other ones will dowload much faster...or I guess thats how it works?

TF2 has changed so much from the original release, its a pain to go from disc install to updates. Its easier to just download them IMO.
