Anyway, everything I've heard says that UV is harmless with one important exception. If you have UV leds, it is best not to look straight into them because, so I've heard at least, your eye does not recognize how bright they are. This means your pupil does not adjust properly leading to potential damage. This GENERALLY doesn't apply to other sources of UV because they are rarely strong enough to cause significant damage but UV leds can run in the high mCDs.

i believe the UV radiation from the sun is comprised of 3 different wavelengths? uv-a uv-b and uv-c ... i believe a cathode is emiting uv-a and that isn't going to give you cancer.

Most sources agree that the UV CCFL lights are not dangerous. The majority also agree that gazing into a UV LED is a bad thing. Personally, the array of EM fields that we are exposed to and the amount of time I spend near computer equipment would make my use of any UV stuff only temporary. Safe in low doses doesn't mean no third arm a few years down the road.
